Another Comcast Scam!

* Another Comcast Scam!

Got the “below”email from Comcast yesterday morning.

Based on Comcast’s history with me-I wouldn’t trust anything that this Company-says.

Guaranteed many boxes won’t be shipped, self installations will be screwed-up and Comcast will somehow make a fortune on this so-called upgrade.

If Comcast “loves” its customers as much as it claims-to, why doesn’t the Company just send installers to every home and do what needs to be done for FREE!

The last time I checked, Jeff Eats wasn’t a Comcast employee-so why do I have to do Comcast’s work without getting paid? Another possibility, Jeff Eats isn’t a tv or for that matter a computer technician…so if I don’t pay Comcast no installation.

Comcast is a bad-news company and don’t you forget it!

    Jeff,
I’m sure my 82 year old sister who lives in Century Village in Boca Raton is going to know how to install that modem. Right!!!!!!!!!!!
Comcast is and always been a crooked operation.

    • georgie says...

I have been receiving phone calls again for the change. I tried it once before and I couldn’t do it myself. Reason being I had to do something from my street pole. However, when that all happened after Comcast came to install, he told me I had better equipment than they did for a modem. And the installer from Comcast couldn’t get it installed and I said never would have been able to do it. So I brought everything back to the Comcast place in a nearby town. Now, again they are calling me to upgrade.
I hate this company, but they have us where hey want us. I live out in a wooded area and I can’t have direct TV — so I’m stuck. I think it is all a scam too. I pay $200 plus dollars monthly and there is nothing to watch.
I would relish the good old days for 2 channels and not paying!

    • Elaine says...

Why aren’t you alerting South Floridians that your phone line is hacked and calls are being diverted to a thief when press “pay your bill”. I paid my bill 2 days ago. $53.00. Today Comcast (in 3 different states) withdrew 3 seperate times totalling – amount of $964.00 from my debit card. The actual bill I thought I paid- is still outstanding. Comcast even has a COMCAST THEFT HOTLINE for South Florida only because they are very aware of this issue- but did is not alerting the public- AKA its customers. Why NOT?

      • Elaine says...

        COMCAST THEFT HOTLINE 1 (800) 824 7587

        for South Florida Residents ONLY

You only get to leave a message

  2. ZED says...

I’ve been waiting 2 years for the remote control that Comcast said they would ship me. Did you see it, I sure didn’t.
    Comcast is full of crap.

  3. LODI says...

    Comcast’s game.
    You order.
    You get.
    You can’t install.
Comcast comes and installs and you pay.

  4. Georgia B says...

No ifs and buts a SCAM.
Installing a modem isn’t all that easy.
Comcast is setting people up for a costly and mental disaster.
    But you knew that already.

  5. Ed F says...

Definitely going to be a disaster.

  6. David L says...

It’s really not that hard. I know that an 82 year-old grandmother could probably have trouble, but for most people it’s just unplugging 3 or 4 plugs from the old modem and plugging them into the holes on the new modem.

Think about it this way…if your cable goes out, would you want to wait an extra 2 or 3 days for service because all of the technicians are busy plugging in people’s new modems?

Jeff…If you need help, let me know…I’ll work for Pastrami!

    • ZED says...

Not as easy as pulling and plugging a few wires.
      Modem has to be programmed.
      Going to be a mess.

  7. sobe says...

Are you paying a monthly fee to comcast for the gateway you have now? If so I recommend you buy your own because it will pay for itself in 12 months I bought my own 6 years ago & saving $15 a month at that time

  8. Roger C. says...

Yesterday around 4:30pm my internet and tv hd stations went down. It was too late to call the HQ number Jeff gave in another story so I called customer service. Never got to speak to an American. Made 6 calls and was route to Panama, Mexico, Colombia, Philipines. Tech coming out on SATURDAY. Yesterday was WDNESDAY.
THis is the worse company in the world.

    • RON P says...

No Question about it! Comcast is by far the worst company on the Planet!!
I had a repair Jerk try and connect a Digital Box on a TV. After 21/2 hours he gave up and told me he could not fix the problem. I asked him if can’t fix it who can? He told me to call Jesus!! Really NO S..T!!

  9. PC says...

This isn’t a scam at all. I’ve seen way worse from comcast.

Agree with David L new modem is easy to self install. I can see how it would be a problem for some but not most. Plus if your modem is really old you’ll see big improvements in internet speed.

Also agree with sobe. The real ripoff is leasing the modem from Comcast. Way better to buy your own.

  10. Hillary C. says...

    Service out.
    Called 800 number.
    Got some guy in Mexico.
    What a scam.
    Calling HQ right now.
    What a crap company.

  11. Dale E says...

    I hate this company.

  12. TURNER says...

The repair folks are fine it’s the customer service people who wreck this company. They are totally clueless.

  13. Johnny C says...

If my HOA didn’t stick us with this company I’d be long gone. The worst customer service in the history of America,

  14. Ramon F says...

It’s not free. Comcast will charge you $10 per month fee to use the new modem. It’s another con job from Con-cast. Don’t get sucked in!

  15. ReneeZ says...

Received the replacement kit via UPS, I have no idea how to make the change so attempted to contact Comcast to make an appointment for a technician to install……. Still on hold after 45-mins!!!!!!

  16. ReneeZ says...

Tried another tel@ & got thru right away… Yeah!!! Made an appointment for technician to install the new device at a charge of $39.95… Not happy with the charge but it beats me trying to figure how to make the change from one modem to another, & probably messing something up, plus the technician can take the old one back with him,

  17. keely says...

I responded to this “offer” for a faster modem from Comcast and embarked on a month-long nightmare. The first thing that happened was my bill hiked up by $30 a month. (Got it adjusted, but of course only temporarily for 6 months till the next hike.) Next thing was I got 3 boxes in the mail, 2 of them duplicates, each containing the new modem. Then, for the coup de grace, before I even managed to disconnect the old modem & install the new one, I woke up one morning, picked up my phone (Comcast landline) to make a call –and there was no dial tone. (I have the triple play phone, internet, & TV package.) Used my celphone to dial the number and got a recording,” We’re sorry but the number you have dialed is no longer in service.” Turns out that some dingbat Comcast employee, with the request for the new modem, terminated my old account, started a new one with a new phone number. Without telling me. Things are now back to normal but only after spending about 9 hours total on the phone over 4 days with reps who kept disconnecting me and calls that kept getting routed to the wrong department to people who kept giving me differing information. No wonder so many people have come to hate Comcast. I liked them when I first started my service with them 4 years ago but the honeymoon did not last and the more experience I have with them the more disgusted I get. Unfortunately the only other option in my area is AT&T and my experience with them from many years ago was the pits. Oh, by the way, I forgot to mention that my new “upgraded” modem has not speeded up my browsing at all, in fact it made everything online slower and clunkier. I was a patsy – don’t you be one!

  18. Hedy A says...

Comcast is a criminal enterprise .
    They just rob you.

  19. Artie D says...

Did the swap 3 weeks ago and now internet is as slow as can be.

  20. Debi says...

I own my modem why would I want a replace with one from your company? Mine works fine.

  21. gjeff says...

It starts with confusion. It continues with a phone call to some Indian I can’t understand..It finally ends when a technician comes to your house and fixes your problem. THIS COMPANY SUCKS! I just called Disk. The lesser of two evils.

  22. Chris says...

Ok I received the letter to upgrade. After reading all of these comments, I am about scared to death to do it! Believe you, I have had my share of catastrophes with comcast. I pay an enormous amount already and don’t want to incur a higher bill. What to do, what to do…..I think I shall think a lot longer on this problem.

  23. john says...

Got the same message. I received and installed mine just fine. Already am charged $8 a month for my old modem lease. We’ll see next bill. Weirdos

  24. CBT says...

    Jeff Eats,
I can’t think of a worse company to do business with. Very sad.

  25. David Goad says...

Comcast is the worst of any company. The average scammer is not as bad as comast. In our area, comcast is the only option without going to a dish, wish I have no desire to do. Because they are the only ones in the area, they charge what they want and will no longer offer specials. Until anyone else comes into the area, i’m stuck but will switch first chance. NOBODY SHOULD DO BUSINESS WITH COMCAST!!!!!!!!!!

  26. Bill says...

Yes – I do not trust this company, and if they were so concerned for their customers they have an obligation to come out and do the work no charge. They probably got a deal (steal) on some new modems. Mine is just fine the way it is!

  27. SidRidesABike says...

Hate doing business with them. Every call becomes a major production and a waste of time.

  28. TexasMark says...

I agree with Zed. I don’t know how difficult this installation is because after 2 months, 2 phone calls, and 5 visits to http://www.comcast.com/deviceupgrade I still do not have my new modem!

    • Carol says...

Do you have to replace, can you not just keep the old if you wish?

      • JeffEats says...

        Carol:

I believe you can keep what you already have.

        Thanks for reading…

        • DS says...

AND Comcast response to Carol & Jeff’s comments are?? (If it’s not broke don’t fix it) ..?

          • ANGELA says...

I got the same letter last week. After reading everyone’s comments I think I am going to do nothing for now. My speed is fine for me so yes, not broke don’t try to fix it. Thanks to everyone for their input.

  29. Julia says...

Has anyone else called Comcast to discuss a charge discrepancy? Well, I did a few days ago and after pressing this number and that number I finally was told I would be connected shortly (heh heh) BUT before putting me through they wanted me to know there would be a $5.90 charge. Hmm…
    Julia

  30. Dave says...

Question, is this upgrade mandatory, what happens if I don’t do as I’m requested, do I get fined, jailed. Any thoughts??

  31. Bill says...

A few years back, a Comcast contractor called to get me to upgrade my plan with them. I said naw, I don’t want to and I don’t have time to talk about it. Then, in about 2 hours the internet connection went out completely. When I finally got the technician to come out after the weekend, he went up the pole and my cable had been physically disconnected! I have the pictures and the apology letter from the service guys! Just another day in Comcast Hell!

  32. Sandy says...

First, let me say I’m not an employee of Comcast; just a normal user and only speaking from my own experience. After researching the modem thing, mainly looking for increased speed because I have a lot of traffic going through my modem, I ordered the ARRIS TG862G. Because of the holidays, the modem arrived in 7 days. The instructions were pretty explicit with large visuals and directed you in what order to swap the cables from the old modem to the new one. The instructions also suggested that all other connections be swapped as well to insure everything that was running before would get configured with the new modem. The package came with more than enough cables (2-Coax cables, one really long one and one short one; one yellow Ethernet cable; a power cable; a coax splitter; and some cable tacks. I only used the new short coax cable with the old splitter still intact; the old Ethernet cables from the old modem to the new; and the new power cable. Once all my cables were moved over and the power cord plugged in, the modem begin to initialize and I waited for the online light to stop blinking as the instructions stated before trying to activate the new modem. Basically, activation consisted of going online from my laptop that was plugged into the modem with the activation information that came with the new modem to the activation website supplied in the instructions: http://www.comcast.com/activate. However, this was the only time I would need assistance because I had to call Comcast with the phone number supplied 855-652-3446 before I could get the modem to properly activate. Now looking back in retrospect, I think I was entering http://www.comcast.net/activate instead of the .com website included in the instructions. However, after calling the activation pone number, I got an animated voice that actually activated all my devices. Basically, she asked me which devices I was trying to activate and I replied that I wanted “all of the above”; I have triple play. She indicated each step of the way what to say in response to keep her performing what was necessary and I responded to her guidance and she sent signals to my 3 TV’s, internet and phone. Now there was some additional things I had to do, such as, turn on all my 3 TV’s and make sure they were running ok. At first, I got no sound but after giving them additional minutes and turning up or down the sound from the remote, they all came up fine. Next, my wireless devices had to be configured with the HOME-xxxx network name and password listed on the side of the new modem and that was it. Voila, everything is working fine – my TV’s, internet, cell phone and Comcast landlines. I’m 73 years old and it was basically a piece of cake for me. Once you get over the initial hesitation, you will probably pat yourself on the back for having accomplished a job well-done. Plus, you will be quite pleased with how very fast everything is running in your house. I have 3 TV’s, several computers and landlines, and 3 cell phones all activated on this one new modem and my speed is incredibly fast. I, generally, don’t respond to these comment pages but have always used them when I needed help so this time, I felt I could contribute and sincerely hope this helps someone out there whose having problems installing and activating their new modem.

    • Rick says...

Thanks for that info, Sandy. This modem you ordered, did you have a choice through Comcast or did you go buy your own and install as per Comcast’s instructions? I’ve done it before and didn’t think it was that hard. But I’m leaning on buying my own and getting rid of the lease fee. I’ve probably paid for 3 or 4 modems already considering the time I’ve had this old RCA modem.

  33. Terence Long says...

They came and replaced my modem.
Now 2 days later my IPAD doesn’t work.
    These guys are the worse.

  34. Heather says...

I got that same letter you have posted, and then after several phone calls I agreed to it. Now after several months they say that program never existed and that they get to charge me for my modem.

I kept my modem and I’m going to use it. they suck

  35. RebecaPaust says...

Like the comments on this post, I was informed that I needed to get an upgrade. After several months I finally called and requested the upgrade modem. I received it, a friend came and install it for me (I could not have done it myself). I have internet and phone service. As instructed we called Comcast to activate the new modem and this procedure affected my phone. The Comcast agent guaranteed us that my phone will be working within 45 minutes. After 3 hours and still no phone tone, I called back and talk to a gentlemen who tried to help but could not fix the problem. He arranged to have someone come between 2 pm and 4pm on Sunday. NO ONE CAME. STILL NO PHONE. What is going on.

  36. KSR says...

Our HOA got rid of Comcast. We are being rewired by HotWire. I will save 1200 a year. Hope HitWire is goid. Come to think of it nobody could be worse than Comcast.

  37. JoyceEatsBagels says...

We also got HotWire in place of Comcast. During the new installation the worker broke a pipe in my attic’s air conditioner and caused a huge water leak in my bathroom ceiling. HotWire fixed the leak but what a terrible way to start to do business.

  38. Eva Fazekas says...

I don’t know anyone that can say they love calling Comcast & waiting on the phone forever & then the hassle of explain to someone that can’t speak good English. If we ran our company like Comcast does, we’d be out of business. Any time I’ve gone to a Comcast store, there have been lines out to the door. Do you think they might need to hire more people.

  39. Paul Kuchenbuch says...

I am ninety seven years old and ive tried my best to get to you people to tell you I want your bundle, and the man to install it,but ;only if it ;dont cost a bundle. Now if it does then i am going to contact that Frontier Dish, and all the oher people that want my business. Contact me as im not having mu;ch luck contacting you.lol

  40. David says...

On my fathers grave… I WILL get even with Comcast someday, someway….they WILL pay.

youre right about scam. I got new modem and found out that comcast has a
    class action suit against them
so I didn’t use it. now they billed me an
additional $18 -$10 for new modem, $8 for old modem. im furious.

  42. jeff williams says...

I installed the new kit. Then my Cable box started freaking out and now it keeps turning on and off. Wife missed her show. And now…they will send a tech out for $70 to look at it. Who knows what they will find. Probably say I have bad cables and tell me it is $60/hr to rerun. Even though they have worked all of this time just fine. Or at least that is what I read online will happen. Very disappointed. Did not have these issues with Direct TV. Also had plenty to watch. 🙁

  43. Maria says...

I can’t even find the link where they say you can sign up to order the new kit! In fact, while looking I fell here where at least I can release my frustration…AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Now, I received the letter a 3 or 4 weeks ago, didn’t pay much attention to it. Yesterday, my internet service failed, so I called the company, while on the phone with them, the call fell, (their service too) and I was without both services for most of the day. The only one working was cable. Around 6 pm phone came back so I called again, and guess what? went off again when I was explaining what happened in the morning. So I used my cell to call and of course the # didn’t match their records. Total frustration. When finally I could access the account they told me about the switch and to follow the instructions on the letter, and when I asked what will happen if I don’t switch, they said that I will keep having trouble with the services because the old equipment won’t be able to keep up with the new speeds, and that won’t be on them because they gave their customers notice. I don’t want to pay more, I don’t want to mess up with the modem, I don’t want anymore “mooom, do something, the internet is gone!!!” Please help!!!

  44. Sue says...

Don’t do it. They will charge you 19.95 for the kit and shipping and your internet will be SLOWER. When you call for assistance, they’ll just tell you, “well you don’t have to use this modem, it’s just recommended. you can go back to your old one.” OK REALLY? After all I went through to get the new one up and running. This company should be shut down. They are despicable.

  45. TF says...

Hi everyone. I have had to have Comcast for a long time. It has been painful. First they charged me rent for a modem I purchased and installed myself. I had to send them an Amazon receipt to prove it was mine before they would refund months of rent. Then they didn’t stop charging me and had to refund me more rent money until they finally switched me off their rental list. Most recently, and starting in 2014 I was told that I needed to get a new modem. Fine it was old anyway. I purchased a new modem in Jan 2015 from Comcast’s approved list of modems and my service was fine at first. For the past several months my service has been slow and spotty. After much complaining this past weekend (Jan 23 – 26th, 2016) Comcast confirmed that they had done another update to their system September 15th, 2015 that made my less than 9 month old (previously Comcast approved) modem EOL (“End of Life”) and it is no longer compatible with their service. They never informed me of the change in my service or informed me of the need to get yet another new modem. They did tell me in multiple conversations with them this weekend that I could avoid this problem by renting a Comcast modem. I confirmed on a separate website that Comcast nets $30M per quarter on modem rentals.
The modem I previously purchased was an ARRIS and although they provide many other modems that are on the current, approved Comcast list, mine can’t even get a firmware update from them. Seems really suspicious, like both companies are working to make more money from this whole “changes to the system / EOL modem issue.”
To make matters worse Comcast’s policy on reimbursing me is based on only one month and then only the number of days that have passed in that month. So, I got reimbursed for 26 days of January. When I should get reimbursed for well over a hundred days from September 15th, 2015.
Comcast is the worst. I seriously think that their management is allied with Satan and that they purposely go out of their way to increase the stress in everyone’s lives.

  46. p.a. dell'orfano says...

i do not want to participate in this exchange/upgrade. am satisfied w/the modem that i am presently renting from comcast.
if it is mandatory to upgrade, then i will cancel my service w/comcast … too many past difficulties and expense.
i much prefer to remain w/a slower modem that is not wireless … and face what will be another increase monthly amount for something i do not want.
keep me as a customer? or chase me away ?
i will decide when i next ‘hear’ from you by email or postal mail.

So I actually went ahead and hooked my relic of an older modem up b/c the newer Arrais Surf one broke one morning. I didn’t think that the old one would work but not only did it work, it’s 2x as fast!!! So comcast, blow me. Friggin monkeys!
