Way back on February 26, 2014 I told you guys about Otis Cadillac.

That story is reprinted below. I just wanted you to know- that the band will be appearing on Saturday Night-June 7, 2014 at 9pm at Rip’s Sports Bar & Grill (Diamond Strike Lanes) 2200 North Federal Highway, Pompano Beach–(954) 941-0968.

If you haven’t seen this 13 piece band–GO SEE THEM AT RIP’S! You will have an absolute blast.

Jeff Eats and Mrs. Jeff Eats and a whole bunch of friends are gonna be there. From what I understand, the last time Otis was at Rip’s–it was SRO. Rip’s management just told me- that a huge crowd is expected and a smart move would be to- get to Rip’s 60 minutes before show-time to insure a seat. By the way, Otis is a complimentary event. Rip’s does have a sports-bar menu/full bar.

Got something really cool, really campy, really fun, really entertaining… South Florida based—Otis Cadillac & The El Dorados R&B Revue featuring the Seville Sisters.

The group describes itself as…”an 11 piece band -that performs Classic R&B, Root Rock N’ Roll and related Blues oriented material. The band performs in a style that emulates the R&B revues of the late 50s and early 60s. It is the goal of each performance to recreate the atmosphere and energy that gave birth to Rock N’ Roll in that era. The band chooses eclectic and diverse material exposing the talents of its band members.”

Trust Jeff Eats on this one…this band puts on an amazing show.

You can check-out Otis Cadillac & The El Dorados R&B Revue featuring the Seville Sisters at www.theotiscadillacband.com.

Take it for what it is worth…Jeff Eats has seen a “ton” of classic rock/roots rock/blues bands in his day–and this Otis Cadillac- is as good as it gets.

Picture if you can…”The Blues Brothers Band” -”Otis Day & The Knights”- “Bette Midler & The Harlettes all in one package…and you’ll have some idea as to what Otis Cadillac & The El Dorados R&B Revue featuring the Seville Sisters is all about.

Otis Cadillac & The El Dorados R&B Revue featuring the Seville Sisters work bars/clubs/country clubs/condos/festivals all over South Florida.

No fooling around here, this is a must see-band.

Jeff Eats has been to three shows and each-featured a different playlist. The band has 11 core members but every so often 5 Seville Sisters (there are usually 3) help front the band. The beautiful thing about Otis Cadillac & The El Dorados R&B Revue featuring the Seville Sisters is that you never know what quirky stuff will unfold at any given performance. By the way, these “guys” can really play/sing/and dance-and use no tracks-to get the job done.

The band’s next scheduled public appearance…March 23, 2014 at the Waterside Blues Festival in Fort Pierce.

Saw them at Boston’s in Delray.
    So much fun!

    Went to Rips.
    Musically very good.
The problem is that they don’t play well known songs.
    They play obscure songs.
Enjoyable but most people want to be able to sing along and with this band that isn’t possible.
The have a niche but won’t make it into most venues because their song choice is all wrong,
Change the playlist and they will be in huge demand.

  3. NR says...

Saw them at Rip’s. Jammed with people.. Great band. Fun time.

  4. Todd G says...

Had fun at Rip’s last night.
    The band is great.
Agree with some here that they have to play better known songs.

  5. Steve O says...

Otis obviously has a loyal following.
Rip ‘s was packed last night.
My wife and I went to see him based on Jeff’s recommendation.
    We thoroughly enjoyed him.
No doubt that you have to have an acquired taste in that he doesn’t play well known songs.
Have to agree that if he covered better known songs the group would be huge in the country club and condo circuit. Without covering hits he is really limiting his audience to a select crowd.

    Jeff
Nice meeting you, your wife and friends last night.
My wife and I made a special trip to Rip’s because of your recommendation and we weren’t disappointed with the show Otis put on. You are so right, they are a very special band. The crowd loved them and the bar was busy like crazy.
I live in Valencia Falls and we have all kinds of shows and partys. Personally I think that Otis would be a huge hit with our crowd but would need to add a good handful of well known oldies to his playlist. He reminds me of Southside Johnny who doesn’t play too many old hits but relies on his show and style to get the crowd. The condo crowd down here needs familiar music to win them over. I don’t know if you speak to Otis or maybe he’ll read this comment, but add 10 famous songs to the show and you’ll be golden.
    Take care,
    JJS

Thanks to all that took the time to post nice comments about the band.

However, on the subject of “popular” material it has never been the band’s intention to appeal to a wider audience by playing familiar material. There are many excellent “oldies” bands that fill that genre.

To the contrary the band chooses overlooked vintage Blues and R&B classics to bring back to life. The band operates under 2 guiding principles: (1)To visualize what the original artists and songs would sound like today playing with contemporary musicians. (2) To create an atmosphere of excitement reminiscent to the early Rock N Roll shows when everything was new and magical. To the latter extent, certainly the rehashing of overly familiar material does not serve our vision.

While you may not get to hear your favorite “oldie” perhaps you will be lured into a new/old musical experience.

Thanks again for supporting live music and please feel free to say hello personally next time out.

    Otis

    Saw them.
    Enjoyed them.
Big problem they are playing songs that most people have never heard so playing CC, and communities isn’t very likely.
