Nino’s Of Boca II (Boca Raton)

***** Nino’s Of Boca II, 1930 Northeast 5th Avenue, Boca Raton, Florida 33431, (561) 362-8990.

Some guys, really know how to do things right…

Way back when, on March 20, 2008, I told you folks about Nino’s a “mom & pop” red sauce Italian joint with 2-locations, Boca Raton and Delray Beach. Since that “review”—a partnership breakup-had one partner getting Delray and the other getting Boca. To save you the trouble of re-reading that writeup, in a nutshell, I said, that the food was outrageously delicious, with the Boca store a bit stronger than the Delray location.

Anyway…about 2 -weeks ago, the Boca “partner” (I know-that this is getting confusing, but hang in there—I’m almost done) opened a new location, Nino’s of Boca II in Boca Raton. I tried the joint last Saturday night— same great food, huge portions, terrific service. The new location’s GM, Kathy (she worked in the original Boca location for 18 years) has the place running perfectly.

Just so you know, in addition to excellent thin-crust pizza, Nino’s makes a veal chop parmigiana (20 bucks) and a chicken on the bone scarpariello ($17)- which will literally knock your socks off…I can’t recall another “mom & popper” down here, that even comes close on these two dishes.

Trust- old Jeff Eats on this…if I edited Webster’s— under “terrific- South Florida-mom & pop-red sauce-Italian-joints” both of Nino’s Boca locations would be listed.

You can check menu/prices at www.ninosofboca.com.

Nino’s Of Boca II is open Monday-Thursday 11am-10pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-11pm and Sunday noon-10pm.

    Jeff,
The original Nino’s in Boca is a really good restaurant. It is so much better than the other joints in the area that it isn’t really funny. The Nino’s in Delray is also good but it isn’t as good as the Boca store. As you correctly point out, two different owners.
I am definitely going to try the new Federal Hwy location. Hopefully it won’t be as crowded as the Boca spot.

Ate there last night, as good as the original Boca location.
Like you, I have eaten in tons of red sauce restaurants in Florida. Nino’s definitely has to be one of the best around.
They make an on the bone chicken cacciatore that is excellent. Their pizza is one of the best out there.

Jeff, My wife and I are huge Nino’s fans. We have been eating there for years. Have to agree with you 100% that they are heads and shoulders above most of the rest. We have always loved the pizza and the fact that Nino’s makes CHICKEN ON THE BONE scarpariello and cacciatore. Most places just use chicken pieces which we find very bland.

    All 3 locations are excellent.

I don’t care for their pizza. The crust is too mealy. The VC parm sounds good though.

Try their Upside Down Sicilian Pizza – Its so good. Cheese is on the bottom & sauce on the top – not on the menu but just ask for it.

My wife and I usually eat in the Boca store on Beracasa Way. Tried the new Fed. Hwy location last night and it’s just as good as the original. It is very rare to find a mom & pop Italian restaurant that does chicken cacciatore and scarpiello on the bone. Most places just use boneless chicken breast meat. These two dishes are terrific at Nino’s and are really the only way to be eaten, on the bone.

Went last night and tried the bone in chicken scarparello. Good chicken, almost no sausage buried under tons of garbage. I’ll try something else next time. Wife enjoyed her chicken and risotto.

As good as you’re going to get in Florida. New Yorkers are typically disappointed when dining Italian in Florida. Their spoiled palettes are used to the best of the best from 1st generation Italian chefs up North. Nino’s would be considered average fare by New York standards, but it’s the best you’ll find in Florida. I’ve been eating at Nino’s since 1986. All Italian eateries in Florida charge about the same, but Nino’s is the biggest bang for your buck. Hands down…
