How To Win Friends And Influence People-Jacob’s Restaurant & Delicatessen (Boynton Beach)
***** How To Win Friends And Influence People-Jacob’s Restaurant & Delicatessen (Boynton Beach)
Way back- on July 17, 2009 Jeff Eats did a writeup on a bagel-deli joint…Jacob’s Restaurant & Delicatessen located in Boynton Beach. The review was neither here nor there. Anyway…
Earlier today, I received the following e-mail from Elaine- who is apparently Jacob’s owner.
“JEFF, MAYBE YOU SHOULD COME BACK TO JACOBS DELI IN BOYNTON AND TRY US AGAIN. MAYBE YOU HAD A BAD TASTE IN YOUR MOUTH BEFORE YOU CAME TO EAT. AFTER 15 YEARS IN BUSINESS AT THIS LOCATION MAYBE YOU ARE THE ODD BALL WHO CANT TELL GOOD FROM BAD. WE HAD MANY BUSINESSES IN MANHATTAN AND ONE VERY FAMOUS ONE CALLED THE COURT DELI ACROSS FROM THE BRONX SUPREME COURT AND JUST 2 BLOCKS FROM YANKEE STADIUM. YOU CAN IMAGINE HOW MUCH EXPERIENCE WE HAVE IN THIS BUSINESS AND YOU ARE NOTHING BUT A BLOGGER WHO KNOWS NOTHING EXCEPT WHAT YOU ARE GIVEN FOR A GOOD REVIEW. RUVENS WILL GO JUST AS THE OTHER 3 OR 4 BEFORE HIM IN THAT LOCATION. WE WILL SEE WHAT HAPPENS AND WHO SURVIVES AND YOU WILL KNOW THAT YOUR REVIEWS CARRY NO WEIGHT AT ALL, ALSO, WHAT MAKES YOU A FOOD EXPERT. TELL ME WHAT YOUR QUALIFICATIONS ARE BESIDES BEING FROM BROOKLYN. LETS SEE IF YOU CAN RESPOND TO THAT LAST QUESTION, OTHERWISE YOU ARE A NOBODY IN THE FOOD BUSINESS”
Just wanted to share with you, the perfect example of: “How To Win Friends And Influence People” is done.
Jeff, you crack me up.
Love Jeff Eats.
Oh Elaine!!!!
All you had to do was ask Jeff to revisit your restaurant.
Hope you make better chopped liver than you dealt with this situation.
How come you are first writing to Jeff years after the review first appeared?
elaine, from your comments it seems to me that you think that jeff gets something for a good review. i seriously doubt that, but if that were the case, you should have given him something, so you didn’t get the crap review that he gave you.
rotflmaoay
I found this review on YELP.
Boynton Beach, FL
5/3/2009 I tried this place once and will never ever return. Rude old gu behind the counter made a brutally bad roast beef sandwich–(I think the meat was expired because it smelled horrible. I tossed it after one or two bites. Please stay away
I don’t know anything about food either, but I DO know that I will NEVER set foot in that restaurant!
Yelp also had this one:
Gave them one shot. Failed. I think the employees bitching at each other, complaining about a customer, and the 20-minutes it took to find my turkey-club sandwich might have tainted my opinion just a bit. One large room, no atmosphere (except perhaps the scent of BenGay) – Too many better places – best of luck, Jacob
Elaine:
From what I can tell, you live in a glass house. You do know what they tell people who live in glass houses not to do, don’t you?
i live in Boynton and years ago when I looked into your store’s window, it look so unappetizing, that I just kept on walking. Never ever thought about Jacob’s until a few minutes a go when I read Jeff Eats.
Jeff,
You said it, this woman sure knows how to make friends and influence people.
Love the story.
Elaine Elaine Elaine, I’ve eaten in your restaurant. I’ve also eaten in the new guy Ruven’s. Sorry, but his food is better. You sure did own and close a lot of restaurants. Ever think, that just maybe, your food ain’t that good?

here are yelp reviews, dont see too many fans for this one,
Well, at least the lady spoke her mind. To his credit, Jeff let her speak her mind. Unlike most, Jeff just lets the chips fly and where they land, they land.
ELAINE:
Just had a chance to read your post.
First— Please, tell me what you really think of Jeff Eats.
Second- Since I control what “comments” appear here and which ones don’t, I obviously have no problem with you speaking your mind.
Third- If as you say, I am a food blogger who knows nothing and that my reviews carry no weight, why in the world are you so “busy” writing to me?
Thanks for reading,
Jeff Eats.
How difficult is it to make a grilled cheese with bacon and tomato — well done? I have been to Jacob’s twice and will never return. I had to send my grilled cheese sandwich back twice because it was not prepared properly. This happened on each visit. Besides, the interior is so drab, dingy and plain unappetizing. Bring back Pastrami Queen.
From what I can tell, old Elaine’s Jacob’s Restaurant ain’t as good as she thinks it. As a matter of fact, it sort of sounds like a disaster.
Good luck Elaine, I think you need it.
This one is going to go viral. I can feel that already.
BTW, do the servers at Jacob’s Restaurant and Deli yell at you when they take your order as Elaine is doing in her email?
Oh come on y’all. Give Elaine a break. I mean she obviously has been stewing over this for two years now and was working on putting together just the right words. Good job Elaine. I won’t be eating at Jacob’s… but good job.
With all the craziness in this world, this Elaine person sure needs to get a hobby. Wow. Between her email and Charlie Sheen rants, I’m enjoying the abundant lunacy. I will never go to her restaurant and will post her note on Facebook. My friends all need a laugh… and a warning about her restaurant!
Good job, Jeff. Love the site.
My father taught me 30 years ago to write what you are thinking and then sit on it for 24 hours. Most times you don’t send it. Too bad Elaine didn’t have that advice.
Can someone please tell me what it takes to be a food critic? Seriously – writing well and interesting is more important than anything else!
Besides, Elaine obviously doesn’t know that it’s NOT JUST ABOUT FOOD!
elaine,
years ago i ate in your restaurant. once was more than enough.
on ruven’s, i ate lunch there last week and they could teach you a think or two.
good luck, because based on your food and dismal looking restaurant, you’ll need a ton of it.
Elaine, good job driving me away from your restaurant. I have eaten in your place and will never go back again!! DO NOT ATTACK JEFF!! I am looking forward to being at the auction of your stuff. you are an idiot!
how come it took this woman 2 years to write you?
she sounds really pissed.
your review wasn’t all that negative.
total over reaction.
Its amazing that the owner complains two years after the review. Jeff tells us his opinion in a no nonsense way. He pulls no punches!
hey jeff, bet you never heard from jacob’s owner again.
what a dope.
Maybe the owner had to sell the Yankee stadium restaurant because it got sooooo bad the neighbors complained…..Never know what can happen to smell and taste after a stroke or a brain tumor therapy…..
dingy
JEFF 95% OF THE TIME IS RIGHT ON THE MONEY… WITH THIS ONE HE IS NOT… IT IS EVEN MUCH WORSE THAN HE DESCRIBED IT. HE WAS BEING VERY KIND. IT IS DIRTY. GOT SOUP WITH THE WAITRESS FINGER IN IT & NEVER WENT BACK. THIS WAS YEARS AGO. WHEN THERE WAS NOT SO MUCH COMPETITION. THEY WERE NEVER ANY GOOD. THEY USE CHEAP PACKAGED MEAT & THROW IT IN THE STEAMER. I WOULD SAY TODAY THEY ARE THE WORST UNLESS THEY CHANGED FROM YEARS AGO WHEN I WENT THERE ONCE WHICH I DOUBT.
ELAINE CAN TALK ALL SHE WANTS THIS DELI HAS HORRIBLE DELI & IS RUNNED VERY POORLY.
I WOULD NEVER GO THERE AGAIN EVEN FRO A FREE MEAL.
I WOULD GIVE IT 1/8 OF A STAR & THAT IS BEING KIND.
JEFF IS SOMEBODY GREAT IN THE FOOD BUSINESS. KNOWS HIS STUFF
ELAINE YOU NEVER WERE & ARE STILL NOTHING IN THE DELI BUSINESS
