Stephen’s Restaurant & New York Style Deli (Hialeah)

***** Stephen’s Restaurant & New York Style Deli. 1000 East 16th Street, Hialeah, Florida 33010, (305) 877-8863.

Let me make this one short and simple…

Stephen’s with its formica tables–and formica counter seating has been around for something like 60 years. Sort of like entering a timewarp…NYC diner/NYC deli circa 1950’s-60’s.

Stephen’s which is open Monday-Friday 7am-3:30pm has the full gamut of breakfast dishes, sandwiches, burgers, deli meats-plates, “blue plate specials” like meatloaf–but only on Tuesdays.

I recently did lunch “trying” pastrami on rye, corned beef on rye, brisket with potato pancakes…and I gotta tell you, if I squint my eyes, I’m at… Sam’s Candy Store & Deli, Cortelyou Road & East 7th Street, Brooklyn, New York— 1957. I absolutely loved the food and “the place.”

I don’t know about you, but joints like Stephen’s hold a special place in old Jeff’s heart (now I’m going all sentimental on you)…

I used to eat at Stephens every day back when I was in the shmata biz and had factories around the corner. Quality has gone down in recent years but still a great place.

Jeff, I got a place you have to try. Stephen’s Restaurant and Deli in
Hialeah(1000 E 16th St.) yes a Jewish style deli in Hialeah. This place has been
there for like 50 years and has some of the best deli food in South Florida.
They cure all the meat on premise, the Corned beef and Pastrami are hand sliced.
I was shocked this place is as good as it is. The only drawback is they are only
open Monday to Friday and close at 4pm no Saturday or Sunday. With that in mind
go try this place and then tell all. You will be happy you did.

    Thanks your faithful reader,

Jeff you’re funny! By the way I understand that a new owner came in back in late 2011 and it’s back to old times. Great place….
