Bamboo Wok (Boca Raton, Coconut Creek, Boynton Beach)
***** Bamboo Wok, 9181 Glades Road, Boca Raton, Florida (561) 218-6003…12040 South Jog Road, Boynton Beach, Florida (561) 742-0123…4660 West Hillsboro Boulevard, Coconut Creek, Florida (954) 427-1888.
If you do some homework, you will find that back on July 6, 2008 I did a writeup on a Chinese “take-out only” joint named Bamboo Wok…there are currently 3 locations, Boca Raton, Coconut Creek and Boynton Beach.
Since that July 6th “story”…I must have picked up food from the Boca location something like 35 times–5 times from the Boynton Beach joint and 1 time from the Coconut Creek store. The store designs are all the same…order at counter—you can see the food being prepared—in an assembly line setup. Not 100% sure on this, but there are 2 brothers and a sister—she owns the Boynton Beach spot and the other two stores are owned by one of the brothers. The food- menu-prices-portion size—are the same at all locations.
If you live or work near one of these stores, you gotta try the food. I’m gonna go out on a limb here, but the food is OUTSTANDING…this is as close to NYC Chinatown joint food as you will come down here in Florida. I am telling you—off the top of my head—the wonton soup, boneless bbq spare ribs, egg rolls, fried rice, fried pork dumplings, moo shu pork, sweet & sour chicken, general tso’s chicken, shrimp with black bean sauce…are delicious. The portions are “huge” and the prices are neighborhood takeout prices.
These 3 joints are winners.
Sounds good. How about an address?
i live in boca. i have been bamboo’s takeout or years, they also deliver. on any given night there is always a line ordering and picling up. you are so right the food is excellent. like you i love the boneless spare ribs. eat this with white rice and you think you are at hong fat in chinatown in 1975.
Shelly: Just had a chance to read your post.
Just check my July 6, 2008 writeup and you will find the addresses.
If you like NYC Chinatown style food, I think you will love these joints.
Thanks for reading…
jeff, tried last night. cant believe that i’ve driven by the boca store naybe 1000 times and never even noticed it no less tried it. delicious food. tried that boneless rib dish, sweet and sour chicken, tsos chicken. roast pork fried rice. portions are enormous.
Just to correct the thrid store is in Coconut Creek, Lyons and Hillsboro not Coral Springs. They do a pretty good job. China Sea in Coral Springs is also good.
rob: Just had a chance to read your post.
Must be getting old, I put down wrong area. Thanks for pointing it out.
Thanks for reading…
jeff, i have tried several of your recommendations and you are right about Bamboo Wok it really is very good. i went through your list and am thinking of going to grand lake although it is about 30 minutes from my home. is it worth the trip and is the food better than bamboo wok’s?
thanks,
ws
ws: Just had a chance to read your post.
To answer your questions: Grand Lake’s food is very good. Yes, it’s worth a 30 minute ride.
As for Grand Lake vs. Bamboo Wok, I think that Bamboo Wok’s food is better.
Hope that helps you out…
Thanks for reading…
what a great find.
food was excellent and the portions are gigantic.
thanks,
ny chinese food in boca.
those boneless ribs are delicious.
Jeff: All I can say is WOW!!!! You really found a big winner here. This as close to real NYC Chinatown stuff as I have had in Florida. The takeout portions are huge and the prices are no more than the other local takeouts. The moo shoo pork that I had was outrageously good. Same goes for the General Tso’s chicken and fried pork dumplings. Great find.
what a great find.
food was excellent and the portions are gigantic.
Jeff Eats,
Based on your recommendation I went to the Bamboo Wok located in Boynton Beach. I have to compliment you on coming up with this Chinese takeout. The food is exceptionally good. The portions were huge. The prices were normal Chinese takeout prices.
I was born in Brooklyn and lived there for 68 years before coming down to sunny Florida. I have been in Boynton for 10 years and have sorely missed having GOOD Chinese food. Other than China Dumpling I found most of the food in Florida LOUSY.
No more.
Bamboo wok is fantastic.
Hadn’t heard of this one before you mentioned it.
I live 5 minutes away from the Boynton Beach store and got food there last night. You are 100% correct in that the food is terrific. The portions are huge. The prices reasonable. I hadn’t really thought of getting boneless ribs but you got me thinking so I had a large order. OUTRAGEOUSLY GOOD. Combined with white rice the ribs were sensational. I have been reading for awhile and this has to be the best pick yet. I highly recommend Bamboo Wok to everyone.
this is the best carryout in fla.
amazingly good food.
Jeff Eats: I have to really compliment you. As a native New Yorker livining down here for over 15 years I have searched and searched for a good Chinese restaurant without much success. The other evening I took out food from Bamboo Wok in Boynton Beach and it was fabulous. As good as the food I use to eat at Wong Kee at 113 Mott Street. Thanks for the tip. The food is outstanding and the portions gigantic. Great pick.
Great food.
This is a e “real” NYC Chinese takeout.
This is a must try.
I get my food from Boca location.
My wife and I have been looking for a first rate Chinese restaurant for over 17 years here in Sunny Coral Springs. Hadn’t heard of Bamboo Wok until your review. We had food from the Coconut Creek outlet last night and you are on the money with this one. No kidding around but this food is right up there with some of the best places in NY’s chinatown.
Thanks for this one.
We also loved your Primanti pick.
what a great find.
food was excellent and the portions are gigantic.
This one alone was worth the price of admission. Probably the best Chinese food in Florida.
jeff have you tried atlantic palace in margate? read about it somewhere else and been debating giving it a try. they also have dim sum
Jeff Eats, at your suggestion picked up food from the bamboo Wok in Boca last night. The report card, shrimp in lobster sauce excellent, fried dumplings and egg rolls a bit to salty for me, moo shoo pork good but not great, bonelss spare ribs outstanding, general tso’s chicken excellent. Your are right in that this is one of the best takeouts in South Florida. Not perfect but really really good.
Thanks,
GR
excellent takeout.
was in the Boca location.
this is as close to NYC Chinese that I have found.
great call.
the food was excellent.
never saw such huge takeout portions like the ones they give.
So glad you mentioned this one. Food is the best around.
awesome food. portions are enormous//
i think that pf chang’s is the best chinese food in boca raton?
ever try it?
Took your advice. Got food from Boynton Beach. As close to NYC food as there is. Huge portions and great food.
Thanks.
best garlic chicken, roast pork fried rice is also delicious.
jeff, i have treid bamboo in boca. it is very good. i think that gary woo’s express in boca is better. just my opinion.
delish food. huge portions.
Jeff: the boneless spareribs that you mentioned were delicious. never would have tried banboo without your recommendation. this is my new takeout haunt. can’t believe that i had never heard of bamboo although i have lived in boca for 30 years.
thanks
excellent takeout
jeff,
great takeout.
i tried the one in boynton.
humongous portions.
thanks,
ron e
First time at Bamboo Wok in Boynton.
As good as the Chinese I use to get at Wong Kee 113 Mott Street, NYC.
This is a rare one.
By far and away the best NYC style Chinese food in S. Florida.
Shainghai City in the old Jasmine spot far superior to Bamboo Wok. White tabelcloths, attentive service and fine Chinese food at local joint prices. Only other Chinese restaurant this good is China Dumpling in Boynton Beach. As far as NY style Shanghai City reminds me of the old Bill Hongs in midtown, long closed.
Jeff,
Have lived in Delray for over 20 years. Heard about Bamboo Wok because of you. Excellent food. Huge portions. Reasonable prices. This has to be one of your best finds. Thanks, Boobie
Based on all the favorable reviews we gave this place one more try with the same result. Most of the food wentv into the garbage or down the drain. The wonton and egg drop soups were poor. The aclaimed boneless ribs were too rubbery to eat. The mongolian beef was a mountain of fried onions with little beef to be found. However, the shrimp with bacon was very good. Will not return to Boca’s Bamboo Wok.
frank w,
beem getting food from boca store for years. always good. got a feeling you might not really know what good nyc style chinese food is all about.
Having worked and eaten in NYC for 25 years and having travelled extensively in China and after having eaten in the best Chinese restaurants in San Francisco I think I know a thing about Chinese food. Also visited Peru on business many times and know what a Chiffa is all about. Do yourself a favor and try the new Shainghai City where the old Jasmine used to be. A dollar or two more for outstanding food.
frank w: we have been getting food from boca store for years. love the boneless ribs and the wonton soup is delicious. i see you didn’t like the place. i guess their lousy food is why there is always a line to pickup and they have 3 stores.
EK we tried it again last night with different results. The dim sum alone was worth the trip.I am figuring out that much of their food is excellent and some not so much. The shrimp with bacon for example is excellent but the mongolian beef is not.The spare ribs are great but the boneless were not. I may have caught them on an off day. Also enjoy Shanghai City and Chef Tai.
frank w, glad you tried Bamboo again. it’s the only takeout my wife and i get food from. it is the closest to being a real nyc chinatown place that we have found in florida. by the way, we also like china dumpling which is a full service restaurant in boynton beach.
Thanks EK. China Dumpling is excellent and a great place to take out of towners.Never had a bad dish there. What do you generally order from Bamboo Wok?
frank w,
try their 10-ingredients w/ won ton soup, fried dumplings, general tso’s chicken, egg rolls, roast pork with black bean sauce, spare ribs, pepper steak, that should keep you busy for starters.
outstanding take away food.
Jeff, the food is as good as any place that I’ve been to in NYC’s Chinatown same for SF Chinatown. The fried dumplings, boneless ribs, egg rolls and 10 ingredients wonton soup are off the chart.
I highly recommend that people try this one.
Got food tonite in boca. People lined up at 7pm to pickup and calls coming in like crazy.
Read about Bamboo here about 6 months ago. Have gotten food at least 20 times since then from Boynton store. This is the best food in the whole area. I have also told friends and family about it and everyone who has tried it agrees that the food is excellent. In additio the prices are good and the portions are enormous.
Tried Bamboo on Glades twice. Both times they forget something. First time it was sauce for sweet & sour chicken the second time it was an order of fried dumplings. Not going back for a thrid round. Food was good but if I can’t get a complete order for which I paid for, I’ll go elsewhere.
i pickup at boynton store. i always check my order before i leave. food is the best around.
they got the best pork dumplings and egg rolls.
No doubt about it, best Chinese takeout. Rivals the ones in my old Brooklyn neighborhood.
Jeff,
food tonight from boca spot.
best takeout in s fl.
food is delicious.
great dumplings, egg rolls,
