Nick’s Restaurant, 105 East Hallandale Beach Boulevard, Hallandale, Florida 33009 (954-458-0363.

Nick’s is a neighborhood “diner”…it has been in business since 1962.

Had breakfast there the other day.

Got a big problem here…this morning when I called Nick’s to get some “pertinent” information for this review, the lady who answered the phone (although she was told that I was preparing a writeup) told me that she was too busy to talk and hung-up. Now, I know that people are “busy”…the way I see it, she should have asked me to call back at a more convenient time or asked for my number so that she could get back to me. By the way, all of my questions could probably have been answered in under 60 seconds.

Like I said before, I had breakfast there the other day.

Obviously, this lady doesn’t want me telling you about Nick’s…now, I’m going to assume that this lady (I am starting to sound like Jerry Lewis here) is the owner or at least works at Nick’s…so I won’t.

Good food, bad food…there are plenty of fish in the sea. I won’t be back.

Hi Jeff Eats: The lady sounds real stupid to me.
Just curious, how much work exactly goes into doing one of your reviews?

Jilly: Just had a chance to read your post.

Let me give you some idea as to how a “review” is generated.
First, I pick a joint to review. I get my “picks” from all types of sources…newspaper ads, friends’ recommendations, newspaper-tv-radio reviews, etc.
Second, I then actually eat there. Most of the time, after I have finished my meal, I tell the owner/or manager that I am going to do a writeup on the restaurant. I usually ask a whole lot of questions of the owner/manager after I eat and I usually get a menu to take with me. Sometimes during the meal, I ask other customers about “their” meals. Just so you know, every so often, I don’t say a word to the owner/manager and just leave…I usually do this, when I am “negative” on the joint, the owner/manager isn’t all that friendly or the owner/manager isn’t around or too busy to talk to me.
Third, I “sketch” out the review and use the menu and if possible the restaurant’s website to fill in the holes.

That should give you a rough idea on how it all comes together.

    Thanks for reading…

By now you yourself are in the restaurant biz. It can be very very high pressure. Don’t take it personally. You and I might last a week actually running a “joint”.

If she dissed you it was only to take care of a customer right in front of her. If you call back I’m sure you will get a nicer reception this time

BTW I like the way you review places
Have you ever reviewed the “Little Caboose” hamburger (slider) place at Hillsboro/Powerline?

Dennis: Just had a chance to read your post.

On your “Little Caboose” question…check under “Fast Food” November 26,2008 and you will find a review for that joint.

On the Nick’s lady, I don’t do call backs when someone brushes me off. Review is in, onto the next one.

    Thanks for reading.

    Thanks Jeff
I just checked our your Li’l Caboose review of Nov 26. You gave the place a fine review. Bought some frozen White Castle burgers yesterday. Li’l Caboose sliders are better. There is a Krystal at 901 W Sunrise Blvd. Never been there but I have eaten at other Krystals and while the product looks and tastes good I feel funny afterward. The ultimate was fresh White Castles but that was when I was little and lived up North

If sliders are your game, you may want to checkout Arnold’s Royal Castle (reviewed 1/27/09).
You may also want to checkout J. Mark’s (reviewed 12/7/08) which serves an “upscale” slider that is absolutely sensational…4 sliders and french fries goes for something like 10 bucks.

    Thanks for reading…
