Boardwalk Fresh Burgers & Fries (Boca Raton)
***** Boardwalk Fresh Burgers & Fries, 21077 Powerline Road, Boca Raton, Florida 33433, (561) 482-1561.
Just got back from Boardwalk Fresh Burgers & Fries…a fast food burger joint (surprise, surprise!) that literally just opened for business in Boca Raton…actually, it opened yesterday—and I gotta tell you, that Five Guys (one of my favorites) better watch out—because this miniscule chain (they currently got something like 8 stores in 6 states-Boca is the only Florida location) makes terrific burgers and fries. Throw in some salads, wraps, chicken items, hot dogs, milk shakes and desserts—and this joint may convert some of Five Guys’ legendary fans. Like Five Guys-the grill is in the open and there is no drive-thru, but the Boca location, in addition to indoor seating–has a great looking outdoor eating patio.
From what I can tell, based on the “open kitchen”–price points–daily delivered fresh hamburger meat–handcut french fries–Boardwalk plans to go head to head with Five Guys. Like I said before, for right now Boardwalk only has 8 stores…that said, the owner of the Boca franchise, Irene Jung, told me, that she plans on opening 50 Florida stores over the next “few” years and that a second joint is scheduled to open in Orlando later this week.
Now you and I know, that restaurants come and restaurants go. Only time will tell, if Boardwalk Fresh Burgers & Fries will actually develop into a large national chain. What I do know, is that the cheeseburger & fries that I had this evening were as good as the stuff that Five Guys makes.
Not sure if it is fair or not, to compare Boardwalk to Five Guys…but, my gut tells me, that the guys who created the Boardwalk concept spent many hours studying the Five Guys’ playbook. These guys think that they have a more diversified mouse-trap…

Let me wrap this one up this way…I thought that the food was delicious.
Boardwalk Fresh Burgers & Fries is open Monday-Sunday 11am-10pm.
Jeff: Like you I tried Boardwalk yesterday. I was very impressed by the fact that a brand new business ran so well. I had a double burger, large ff and a soda. You are right that the pricing is similar to Five Guys. My meal ran about 9 bucks. I was also impressed by the the decor inside and outside. No question a bit more upscale than the Five Guys in Boca and the others that I have been in. The burger was as good as those that I have had at 5 Guys. The ff were good but I think that Five Guys are better. I also thought that the large size portion on the fries was much smaller than what you get for your money at Five Guys. The portion was ok but for a large it should have been heftier. When I was there, there were loads of employees working. I am going to assume that after the initial grand opening runs its course that the staff will shrink. If it doesnt, labor costs will eat Boardwalk alive.
All in All, I enjoyed Boardwalk. By the way, the Powerline Road is a good location. Hopefully the rent wasn’t too outrageous.
Jeff, if i have my facts correct, this is the same two brothers who use to own/franchise boardwalk fries which use to be in loads of malls. i think, years ago, that they were in town center in boca and sawgrass mall. i think that the original concept of only having fresh french fries was kind of limited, so the brothers came up with a burger-fries-etc concept which you are now seeing being developed here in florida and around the country. i haven’t tried this new location just yet, but if the ff are like they were a few years ago, they got a head start because they were delicious.
I owned the bakery cafe in the Town Center Mall food court and used to eat the fries from Boardwalk Fries all the time. They were the same type Nathan’s sold and were almost as good. If that’s what they have at the new place they are much better than 5 Guys. The funniest sign in the 5 Guys in Boca is one that claims that they have the best fries in Brooklyn. If they did I would eaten there more than once.
Ate lunch in Boca today. Very good burger and fries. Same prices as 5 Guys. Food is almost identical. More choices at Boardwalk and the decor is more upscale.
I stopped by to check the place out and I just don’t like places that only sell well done burgers so I wouldn’t go back. I also don’t see how that place is capable of doing the numbers they need to do with so few seats and I think they made a big mistake taking that space. Their outdoor seating won’t do much in the summer, when it is very hot and there are thunderstorms
Hello HerbK,
I am the owner of Boardwalk Boca. I agree with you when you say its very hot in the summer and that is why I installed the cooling misters and fans and the big patio sails instead of umbrellas, to provide more coverage. I sell well done hamburgers as do a lot of other fast food burger restaurants, but my menu includes a whole lot of other selections. I have grilled chicken breasts, chicken tenders, veggie burgers, build your own salads. I offer milk shakes and beer and wine also. Just wanted you to know in case you wanted to try something different. Thank you for your comment.
Very similar concept to Five Guys. The store in Boca looks great and has a nice outdoor patio.
The food is as good as Five Guys.
Prices are basically the same.
Boardwalk just opened this week in Boca and we’ve already eaten there twice. It was GREAT!!
My 10 year old son said the food was as great as it looked in the pictures. Fresh, yum, well priced, we’re going back.
jeff, tried boardwalk yesterday. really enjoyed the burger and fries. nice looking place. also nice outdoor patio but yesterday’s weather didn’t allow it to be used.
nice competitor to 5 guys. mcdonalds, bk, wendy’s no match.
I liked it.
A bit more upscale than 5 Guys.
Very good.
A good alternative to the 5 Guys in Boca.
How would you compare Boardwalk to Maxies which opened up a few months ago in Royal Palm Place?
CFP:
Just had a chance to read your post.
Haven’t gotten to Maxies yet, but it is now on “to try” list.
Thanks for reading…
I am a fries fanatic. The ones at Five Guys have never disappointed. How do Boardwalk’s fries stack up?
boris: The burgers are similar to 5 Guys. Personally, I thought that Boardwalk’s double burger was better, but it’s a close call. On the fries front, I like 5 Guys’ fries. I thought that Boardwalk’s were good but they had a bit of a sweet taste to me, so I like 5 Guys better. Personally, I like Nathan’s fries the best.
very good place.
The lady wants to open 50 stores. She must be a nut because these stores are just a play on the 5 Guys deal. Lady stick with one store and see if it works before you get bagged with other locations.
Had lunch there today for the first time. I find their burgers and fries to be better than 5 Guys. Plus they have many more options and the patties are bigger. I will go there again and will choose them over 5 Guys.
Ate there.
Good burgers and ff.
As good if not better than 5 guys.
Spoke to owner, who told me next store is opening in Orlando.
Tried a burger and fries at lunch today. Rather cumbersome and slow order process followed by an inefficient “production” line. Sadly, the end product tasted little better than what is available at several national “fast food” chains. Only positive point was quite pleasant outside patio eating area.
I will have to try Boardwalk soon. Sorry, but to me 5 Guys serves very fresh, very hot burgers that have absolutely no flavor of any kind. They don’t taste like beef, salt, pepper, anything. They are hot and fresh, but who cares? The beef they use at Charm City in Deerfield is superb, and the burgers are much, much better than 5 Guys.
I am hoping that Boardwalk will also be good!
Enjoyed this burger restaurant.
Very nice looking for a fast food place.
Great outdoor patio with piped out music.
Food is as good as 5 Guys but decor and environment are far superior.
5 guys is better.
Good burger.
Fries had a strange funny tatste to them which I didn’t like.
I’ll stick with 5 Guys.
This joint is as good as 5 guys any day.
I also like the decor better.
Same for the outdoor patio.
Not even in same league as Five Guys. Very disappointed. Yes the fries were good but so at Five Guys and they give you so much more at 5 Guys. I watched them press the burgers to the grill so there would be no juice in them. I think they broke one strip of bacon in half for the bacon burger forgot to add the mayo i asked for and when I got home the bottom of the roll was completely disintegrated(never happened with 5 Guys and they are a further drive for me) making the burger very hard to eat and burger itself was very dry. Stay with Five guys
I love a good fast food hamburger.
I think that I have been to most of the burger joints in the South Florida area.
I am not a big fan of Jack’s.
I am a big fan of 5 Guys.
I didn’t like Shake Shack.
I like Red Caboose.
I think that Boardwalk makes a good burger. I don’t care for its fries.
was in on saturday around 1pm. two people and me.
food ok. not great. questionable if this one is going to make it.
5 guys is better and has a huge name and following. this one is unknown.
i really like their burgers and ff. better than 5 guys
Wasn’t impressed with the food. The location stinks. Betcha it doesn’t make it.
bad location. very bad parking. burgers and ff good.
Ate there this evening. Not very busy. Food is same as 5 Guys but the menu here is bigger, so if you need a salad they got it.
Much nicer looking than 5 Guys and it has a really nice out door patio.
Will go back.
Using 5 Guys as a point of reference, Boardwalk’s food is as good, nicer decor and great outdoor patio. The menu also has many more selections.
Hands down, Boardwalk in Boca takes 5 Guys in Boca.
they spent a ton of money to build this thing. food is ok, but 5 guys is better. not going to survive
I really like Boardwalk. The burgers and fries are very good. I also like 5 Guys. Personally, I think that Boardwalk’s food is better. No question that the decor and out door patio are better than what Boca’s 5 Guys offers.
i got sick from the fries,
Interesting reading the comments about Boardwalk and 5 Guys. Come on, give me a break. Apples and oranges between the two concepts and hats off to both franchises. Job well done, but the best is yet to come. Keep a close eye out for a small company in eastern North Carolina, home of the shrimp burger. Over 20 years of experience and 100 stores throughout the Tar Hill state, this company knows how to make the cash register ring! Full menu, full service and full of flavor. Cant wait to welcome this southern delight to Florida.
This is my new favorite burger stop.
The bacon and blue cheese burger is the best I’ve ever had.
everywhere else that has one never puts enough blue cheese on so you can’t even taste it (you want to taste it that’s the point). I don’t know if Boardwalk makes a sauce or what but it’s awesome.
I just wish a location was closer to me.
Love the food. Don’t know why the Boca store isn’t doing better.
They are closed, they lasted a year longer than I thought they would. I bet they never had a profitable month.
Loved the food.
To bad they closed.
