Jax House of Ribs (Fort Lauderdale)
***** Jax House of Ribs, 5401 Powerline Road, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33309 (954) 776-4994.
I originally reviewed this BBQ-joint on September 18, 2008. Back then, I told you that it was a relatively new restaurant that had good bbq…that it was “located” in a former Sonny’s BBQ outlet.
Anyway…tonight I had dinner at Jax…and I gotta tell you, that this joint has developed into an absolutely terrific bbq-restaurant.
This evening, I “tried” the baby-back ribs, bbq chicken, corn bread, corn on the cob, sweet potato, garlic toast, peach cobbler and fried cheesecake –everything and I do mean everything was delicious. Throw in ridiculously low prices and…
I am telling you, that this CASUAL-UNPRETENTIOUS-EASY GOING joint is a must try.
Checkout Jax’s website at www.jaxhouseofribs.com for menu-prices -details.
Jax is open Monday-Thursday 11am-8:30pm, Friday 11am-9pm, Saturday 11:30am-9pm and Sunday 11:30am-8pm.
Just a heads up… South Florida Dines www.southfloridadines.com has discount “money” for this joint.
Hello again Jeff –
Sounds like just the kind of joint I’d love to lose myself in. Can’t wait to get back to paradise to enjoy it. Right now I’m stuck in the cold wet enviorns of the Catskill Mountains north of New York City.
By the way… could you correct the address so it says Fort Lauderdale instead of Boca? Thanks!
TRIED JAX WHEN YOU FIRST WROTE ABOUT IT. THE FOOD IS GREAT. RIBS ARE SOME OF THE BEST THAT I HAVE EVER EATEN. JAX IS NOT IN THE BEST LOCATION. IF THIS RESTAURANT WAS LOCATED ON CORNER OF COMMERCIAL AND POWERLINE IT WOULD BE PACKED, BUT IT ISNT. IT HAS EVERYTHING GOING FOR IT EXCEPT LOCATION. I SUGGEST THAT PEOPLE GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO EAT THERE. IT REALLY IS THAT GOOD.
jax babybacks are real good.
great mac and cheese.
great corn nuggets.

Just read the re-review Mitch and congratulations to you and your Staff – you have all worked very hard to earn this accolade.
As for me? When I return to the States (I’m in Europe writing this and you are all still in bed) you know that I’ll be knocking on your door looking for my Jaxx Pack. Folks, if you like great BBQ (the kind that has that tell-tale thin red line on the meat when you cut it?), in great abundance and at a killer price, then ya just gotta wrap your mitts around one of these…it’s advertised for 4 people, but 5 can easily find plenty to eat. And it comes with four drinks that are the size of extended-range fuel tanks on a C-130!
Anyway, it’s good; reaaaaaaaal good.
To all all my fellow US Military Veterans, we receive a 25% discount EVERY day of the week – so, another reason to frequent this establishment. Take care of those who take care of us!
As for location; if you know where BJ’s is on Powerline just north of Commercial, then you know where Jaxx is. Easy to get to and to find.
So, to paraphrase Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons, “See you in December!”
OK, now back to my croissants and cafe au lait that somehow, just ain’t the same!
Delish ribs and chicken. Very fair prices.
Glad you recommended this one.
This place is a weekly staple for me…but I generally switch between the baby backs and the pork sandwich….pork sandwich ALWAYS moist and juicy and I like to add a couple of St. Louis to my baby backs….only place around that I will eat anything other than baby ribs….they are THAT good.
My husband and I found you by accident a month ago and I have to tell you your ribs and everything on the menus are THE BEST!!!! Your servers are also THE BEST!!!!Your cooks are THE BEST!!!!
WE are bbq people where ever we travel and we never thought we would find anywhere equal to THE Quarters in New Mexico but you might have them beat!!!! We have been to Corkys in Memphis and you have them beat!!! There is NO PLACE like yours in all of South Florida.
We will be back now that we have your VIP card
Thanks
Too bad Jax isn’t in a better location. It really is off the beaten path.
Your site turned us on to this great rib joint. Loved the babybacks and bbq chicken.
Super find.
Love many of your picks.

We went to Jax last New Year’s Eve and had the best corn bread, green beans, potato salad (to die for) and ribs one could ever have. We live just north of Montreal and we are counting the days to December 20th when we will be breaking bread at Jax again! Many friends have been to Jax over the course of the summer and they took pictures of their food, it was so good!
Jax! We miss you!
Jax is the best ribs their is, that is it. I live in Pompano and found them on the website. Just by typing in best ribs in Ft Lauderdale and they came up and now I know why.
Great place tender, meaty, tasty.
Will be back for sure next time I get the urge for ribs.
Darlene
