The Shindigs
***** The Shindigs *****
This past Friday Night (November 28, 2008) I attended a private party at the Woodfield Country Club in Boca Raton. The evening’s entertainment featured a 4-piece South Florida based 1950’s-60’s-70’s tribute band…The Shindigs.
I have to tell you, that The Shindigs had a crowd of 250 up and dancing all night. The band did absolutely amazing covers of the hits of such groups/acts as (now get ready for this partial list in no particular order)…The Beatles, The Dave Clark Five, The Zombies, The Monkees, The Grass Roots, The Bee Gees, K.C & The Sunshine Band, The Commodores, The Rascals, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, The Byrds, The Temptations, Barry White, Chubby Checker, James Brown, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, Dion & The Belmonts, Roy Orbison, The Beach Boys, Chicago, Gerry & The Pacemakers and Bill Haley & His Comets.
Take a look at The Shindigs’ website www.theshindigs.us. If you check the members’ bios…you will find that these guys aren’t “kids” playing rock’n’ roll, but rather… are seasoned-professional musicians with extensive music industry backgrounds. If you check “Events” you will find that in the upcoming months, The Shindigs have South Florida “free” gigs scheduled at such venues as the Hollywood Band Stand (12/3/08) and the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino (12/26/08)…
I am telling you, that if you like great classic rock ‘n roll/disco music from the 50’s-60’s-70’s, you will absolutely love The Shindigs. By the way, The Shindigs also perform a Beatles’ tribute show–costumes and all…under the name The Beatles Remembered. If you check You Tube, you will find a number of videos starring The Beatles Remembered and the performances are amazingly accurate…
The Shindigs are a band/act that you should make it your business to see. By the way, unlike many bands…The Shindigs’ music is 100% live, no tracks or tapes are used to enhance the band’s performance.
Don’t miss these guys!!
jeffeats: Like you I was at that Woodfield party and like you I think that The Shindigs were one of the best cover bands that I have ever seen. In addition to everyone dancing everyone was singing along with the band. They sounded just like the real Bee Gees, Beatles and Zombies. You also forget to mention that when they performed they did two costume changes. In the first set they were dressed in British Beatle jackets wigs and all and in the second set they were dressed in 70’s disco/hippie attire. These guys are top shelf.
They are a great group of musicians.
Enjoyed your post about The Shindigs and went to their website to check their appearances. Obviously Woodfield Country Club liked them because I see that the group is booked to play there on December 19, 2008 and February 27, 2009. After reading your article and listening to the songs on the site I and my wife are going to go down to Hollywood and watch them on Decmebr 3, 2008. Thanks for the recommendation.
Did you know that on 11/24/08 that Metromix/City Link rated jeffeats.com one of S.Florida’s best blogs?
Barry R.: Just had a chance to read your post. If you like 50s-60s-70s rock ‘n roll, I think that you will really enjoy The Shindigs. They are an absolutely terrific tribute-legends bands. As you point out, the Woodfield Country Club must have liked them in that the group over a several month period will make 3 appearances there. By the way, if you ever get over to Marco Island there is an absolutely dynamite bbq/chicken/seafood/meatjoint name Porky’s Last Stand http://www.porkyslaststand.com that has The Shindigs booked on a regular basis.
Thanks for reading…
E.G. boca: Just had a chance to read your post. To answer your question…yes, I know that City Link/Metromix rated jeffeats “Best Everyday Restaurant Blog.” I appreciate your pointing the article out.
Thanks for reading…
I have been a regular reader of JEFFEATS since it started. I believe they say long time listener first time caller.
I really enjoy the way you write and your tongue in cheek comments.
I have tried a number of your picks and most of the time you are correct. Your batting average isn’t perfect but it is real good.
I especially liked your pick of Matteo’s in Hallandale Beach which has become one of my favorite restaurants.
I read your The Shindigs post and just wanted to tell you that your taste in music is probably as good as your picking restaurants. I have seen The Shindigs as The Beatles Remembered when they performed in Hollywood and they were fabulous.
Keep up the great work and keep the picks coming.
As a member of the Woodfield Country Club I have to tell your readers that the fabulous Shindigs who were here last week are just one example of the amazing music that has graced our Clubhouse stages. Over the past few years, the Club has had such amazing bands as The New Invaders, Phil Dirt & The Dozers, Right On Band, No Matter What, The Bronx Wanderers, Joey Dee & The Starliters, Shirely Alston & The Shirelees, The Crystals, Otis Day & The Knights, Maxine Nightingale and The Mystics. The Club’s parties are absolutely amazing and the crowds that attend really get into the parties. Great food, great music, fabulous decorations make the parties special each and every time.
The Shindigs were great. Their repertoire is incredible, covering songs from the 1950s-1970s. When these guys sang you’d swear that the original performers were up on the stage. The Shindigs did “Brandy” by Looking Glass and it sounded as if a record was playing, but there wasn’t one. This particular song is on the band’s website, play it and you will be amazed.
Read your Shindigs’ blog story. I live in Hollywood and really like the shows that the City puts on at the Band Stand. There are usually huge crowds for these free shows. The performers for the most part are very good. I checked the City’s list and The Shindigs are going to do a The Beatles Remembered show tonight. I haven’t seen this band but I am looking forward to tonight’s show.
My Google Alerts for the Woodfield Country Club brought me to your site. I saw The Shindigs at WCC on 11/28 and found them to be great. They are very talented. The WCC has booked them again for 12/19 and the word of mouth about them has spread throughout the Club. The first time there was something like 200-250 people at their show. I am now betting that the number on the 19th will be well over 300.
jeffeats. saw the shindigs in Hollywood. they did a great beatles show. have you ever heard of a local band called the bulldogs? i saw them at the pompano beach seafood festival this year and they were great. if you liked the shindigs you also like the bulldogs.
e.c. pompano beach: Just had a chance to read your post. Glad that you enjoyed The Shindigs. Yes, I have heard of The Bulldogs. I also saw them at this year’s Pompano Seafood Festival as they were the opening act for The Buckinghams. I agree with you, The Bulldogs who are based in Pompano Beach are a very good 1950s-1970s rock ‘n roll cover-band. I especially like their versions of Chicago’s hits. For readers who want to check this group out, The Bulldogs’ website is http://www.thebulldogs.org.

Hey jeffeats, my wife and I live in the Broken Sound Country Club in Boca Raton. Friends of ours last month invited us to see The Shindigs at the Woodfield Country Club where they live. Unfortunately we had a prior appointment so we were unable to attend.
The word of mouth about this group has spread to almost every Country Club here in Boca Raton. Since their appearance last month, we have heard from at least 10 people from WCC as to how good they were. We have also met people from Valencia Isles, The Polo Club and St. Andrews as to how great this band was. It seems that WCC allowed members to bring their friends and loads of people were there.
Our friends have invited us to see this group on 12/19 and we will be at WCC for their show. Obviously WCC was so impressed with them that according to the bookings, the Club rebooked The Shindigs after 11/28 to do shows on 12/9/08 and then again on 2/27/09.
Based on the word of mouth, we are expecting quite a show later this week.
Residents of Boca West CC. Saw The Shindigs at WCC last night and this is one hell of a rock n roll band. These guys played every type of dance music and each and every song had people on the dance floor. Real great band.
jeffeats: Not looking to clutter your site but it seems that this is the only forum where one can comment on The Shindigs. Like something like 300+ others I saw them this past Friday night at WCC and these 4 guys sure area awesome band. They can play anything from Everly Bros. to KC. They did a version of Magic Carpet Ride that was off the charts.
Can’t wait to see them again.
Enjoyed talking to you the other evening at Nino’s in Boca Raton. It is great that people are following this site. As a member of the Woodfield Country Club I got to see The Shindigs play in November and December and I am looking forward to seeing them again in February. They really are that good. I am also looking forward to the Motown Review Show that the Club has set for January 16th starring The Sensations. Friends of mine have seen this group at The Pavilion in Boca Raton and said they were really good.
Thanks for the light hearted down to earth recommendations.
Hey jeff, you ever hear of a band named Whitestone? They play a lot in the Gypsy’s Horse up in Wellington. They are a rock cover band doing 50s 60s and 70s music. They are really good and one of their lead singers is Frank Mancuso who is also one of the Legends of Doo Wop.
If you haven’t seen them, check them out.
Love your blog. Like when you also talk about bands and other food sites. Nothing pretentious about this site. Just straight talk. Just thought I’d let you know, if you didn’t already know, that the Shindigs will be playing as The Beatles Remembered at this year’s Pompano Seafood Festival. Keep up the great reviews.
Saw The Shindigs this evening at Mardi Gras Casino, terrific band covers of 50s-70s. Catch them they are great
