New York Prime is an “upscale steakhouse” located in Boca Raton.

This is a re-review…the original review July 23, 2008 was a “so-so” finding.

Over the years, I have eaten in this joint a number of times. My last outing was this past Saturday night with an 8:30 pm reservation. Let’s just say, that from the crowd, it appears that the “recession” didn’t hit New York Prime. Wall to wall people…with a 30-minute wait to “honor” that 8:30 pm reservation.

I have mixed “feelings” on New York Prime. The food is delicious and the service is as good as it gets…that said, there is something about this joint which doesn’t sit right with old Jeff Eats. Can’t exactly put my finger on it, but each and every-time I have eaten there, I find the joint surreal…the latest outing had me “defining” the feeling- as “New Jersey Houswives comes to Boca”—a lot of plastic surgery going on here…I’ll leave you guys to figure out what this all means…let’s just say that the crowd to say the least is eclectic.

Let’s talk food…Delicious—-chopped salad ($9.50–enough for 2 people), 22 oz. bone-in-ribeye steak ($39.50), garlic chicken ($23.50), petite New York strip steak ($34), large sauteed onions ($11), large southwestern creamed corn ($11), large hash brown potatoes ($12).

Let me sum up the experience…excellent food, excellent service, prices aren’t too terrible. Loud track/live keyborad music… with people singing along (and I do mean singing along at the top of their lungs to folks like Neil Diamond, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons and Dion & The Belmonts)—if you are looking for a quiet-intimate–or even a dinner where you can hear yourself talk, New York Prime at least on a Saturday night, isn’t the joint for you.)

Take a look at New York Prime’s website www.centraarchy.com for menu/prices. New York Prime is open 7 days a week 5pm-11pm.

Every once and awhile, a joint like New York Prime is a real good place for an upscale steak-seafood dinner. Like I said before, the food and service are top-notch and the prices not toooo bad. The “show” is also something to see.

This evening I ate dinner at New York Prime an upscale steakhouse…you know exactly what this kind of joint is all about…where a 22 oz. bone-in-ribeye goes for $42…where a baked potato goes for $7.50. Personally, if I closed my eyes and just ate, I couldn’t tell you if I was in New York Prime, Abe & Louie’s, Chops, Morton’s, Ruth’s Chris… as they all play the same tune, give or take a different “note” here and there. As for tonight’s food, it was okay, nothing great…the steak was very fatty…the hash browns bland, your neighborhood bagel-deli makes better ones and doesn’t charge $11…the onion rings and sauteed onions sides were good, but pricey at $8 and $11 respectively.

For information about menu/prices/hours… check this joint’s website at www.centraarchy.com.

Just for fun…Do a bit of homework here…look at the menu prices and figure out what “your” theoretical meal would cost. I think your calculator will show, that unless you eat like a bird… a no alcohol-no appetizer-no dessert meal is going to run you something like 60-85 bucks a head.

Last night, my party of 4 dropped $300+…everyone agreed that the food was just fair and was way overpriced. For that kind of money, you would expect at least one “Boy! that sure was delicious” comment…don’t you think?

I know people who swear by this joint…Personally, I think it’s “a- big- to-do-over-nothing.” The same goes for most of the upscale steak joints in South Florida, with one exception that being the Strip House (see review 5/9/08) in Palm Beach Gardens which doesn’t take itself all that seriously.

    A real bs joint.
    Overpriced food.

  2. Arturo Vega says...

The food is average at best.

Bunch of old Boca folks who think they know what good is, but they really don’t.

  3. Fred Stoll says...

If you’re 75 years old you’ll enjoy this restaurant. A real geriatric group haunts NYP.

  4. Greg Margolin says...

Ate there last night with some out of town business associates, everyone enjoyed the food and service but we all agreed that the crowd was very strange and that it was a bit like a geriatric convention.

  5. Brenda Carter says...

    Jeff,
There are a number of much better steakhouses in Boca Raton that serve better food than NY Prime does and don’t draw a totally obnoxious crowd of people who think that they have something really going for them. The restaurant is a noisy mess and people can barely hear themselves talk. The food is passable but that’s about it.

One time was enough for me.

  6. Arnold Stang says...

Jeff, you have this joint figured out perfectly.

    Food and service are good.

The crowd are a bunch of wannabes who like to see and be seen.

Personally one time eating there was enough for me.

    Won’t be back.

  7. Carl O says...

    Jeff,
This restaurant is an absolute joke.

A bunch of older people who think that mediocre food and service is something special.

  8. Bob H says...

An absolute dumb place to spend your money at.
Expensive food which is absolutely not special combined with a staff that treats patrons like dirt. Throw in an old fart jewish-Italian crowd of country club types who try and play Tony Soprano and his minions and you got this joint pegged. Ate there last night with some business associates and we couldn’t believe the amount of Botox and plastic surgery that many in the crowd must consume.

  9. Terry W says...

Food and service are ok. Nothing great.
    Prices are overpriced steakhouse prices.
Crowd is the show. Just imagine every wannabe Italian gangster type of character and they are sitting there.
The restaurant is a pitiful example of what many outsiders think Boca Raton is all about.

  10. Hank E says...

    OVERPRICED AVERAGE FOOD & SERVICE.
    DON’T BOTHER!

  11. Ken James says...

    Good Steak but….
Best and most important information about this restaurant is that we had really good steaks and all four were cooked perfectly. Now for the not so great. This place is loud. So loud you have trouble hearing across the table. Our waiter service was cold (fake) and we seemed to be an inconvenience to him. Busboy/girl support staff was great. For the price you pay I expected more.

  12. Greg Margolin says...

The crowd is surreal. Looks like a bunch of old folks who got screwed up face jobs. The restaurant is laughable.

  13. Don Lee says...

If you are into overpriced mediocre steak houses this joint is for you.

Ive eaten there a number of times and each and every time while eating I say to myself – self, what the hell are you doing here? The food is mediocre and very overpriced. The crowd are mostly a bunch of old Boca Raton farts from the various country clubs in the area. By the way, many friends enjoy the joint, thus the reason why I’ve been a customer so many times.

  14. Carlo Tedesco says...

Decent food. Expensive. Moronic older crowd that over the years has given Boca Raton a bad name. The vibe in this restaurant is bad news. Everyone there things that they are someone, but trust me they aren’t. If you’re into Botox and plastic surgery you’ll enjoy the crowd and their bs.

  15. Cal K says...

Ate there last night with my party of 6. First time for all of us and we all agreed overpriced, just passable food and service.

  16. Greg Mara says...

Steak was just ok. Very pricey for what it was and just way too much noise. We were a party of 6 on a weeknight and couldn’t even have a conversation

  17. Don Sinclair says...

This restaurant is an overpriced joint.
Be smart and don’t ever walk in there.
The primary reason many people like it is because in the Boca Raton area much of your population is upper middle class who think because they can schmear a guy at the front desk for a good table that they are something special. The food is decent enough as is the service but the room is permeated with this entitled attitude that is absolutely disgusting.

  18. Len Berman says...

    Totally over-rated.

Just so we are straight, the food is decent enough as is the service. As for prices, as expected overpriced.

Last night, My wife and I and another couple ate dinner there and couldn’t believe what an obnoxious over botoxxed over plastic surgery and beyond noisy crowd occupies this restaurant.

This was our first and definitely last time for NYP.

Just imagination not being able to conduct a conversation at your table because of the behavior of the crowd.

  19. Laura Green says...

This restaurant is full of itself that it is actually scary.
The older crowd is noisy and boisterous so any chance of having a decent conversation which you can hear at your table is virtually nonexistent.
The food is pretty good, same for the service. The prices are your standard steakhouse fare.

Over the years, my family have given this restaurant a handful of chances (with the last being last night) and the results have been the same.

What the hell happened to this restaurant. we have been coming here for years at least once a month.

last night the food was atrocious. filet served cold, then recooked to well done( from medium rare) one new york strip inedible. mushrooms medley consisted of cheap button and portobello. some medley.
    potatoes overcooked.
    service mediocre.

this was our go to steakhouse in Boca, Houstons here we come

  21. Leona d says...

    Not recommended.

If you’re not one of the old fart regulars they treat you as if they are doing you a big favor letting you eat there.

Food is meh and beyond overpriced.

  22. Scott Lauder says...

If you’re not a regular customer this joint couldn’t give 2 shits about you.

    Total overprice scam.

Go elsewhere where your business will be appreciated.

  23. Joe E says...

    Very poorly run restaurant.
They cater to an older Boca crowd who wouldn’t know good if it hit them in the face.
Many better steakhouses in the area.
    Stay away.

  24. Lana says...

Ate there last night. Restaurant was jammed and not following 50% capacity COVID rule. Looked as if every table was taken and there was definitely more than 50% oF tables in use.

  25. Ted Ted says...

    This is a silly restaurant.
Silly wannabes thinking that they are somebodys with a staff of waiters /waitresses who have nothing but contempt for the patrons, serving average food at ridiculously high prices.
Don’t waste your time or money unless you are a silly wannabe.

  26. John S says...

Wife and I had $63 bone in rib eye, $9 onion rings and $9 sautéed onions. Rib eye was decent, onion rings were dried out and tasted like cardboard, sautéed onions were decent. Very busy and very noisy crowd. Staff is ok, but not really top shelf. Won’t be back.

  27. HOLMAN says...

THIS RESTAURANT IS AN ABSOLUTE DISASTER. THE FOOD IS OVERPRICED AND NOT ALL THAT GOOD. IF YOU ARENT ONE OF THE OLD FART REGULARS WHO HAUNT THIS DUMP, THE HOSTS TREAT YOU LIKE DIRT AND ONLY CATER TO THE DOPES WHO SLIP THEM A FEW DOLLARS ON THE SIDE. STAY AWAY!

  28. Carl M says...

Was told they had outside seating. No lights so you can’t see what you are eating. No mist fans to cool area down in 90 degree weather. No protection if it starts to rain. Well guess what, it started to drizzle and our whole meal was ruined. This place sucks. My first and definitely last going there.

    • GGT says...

      Carl M,
YOU MUST HAVE BEEN THE 4 TABLE NEXT TO US LAST WEEK. WE WERE THE 6 PEOPLE NEXT TO YOU. WE HAD THE SAVE PROBLEM AND THE MGT COULDNT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT US. LUCKY THE DRIZZLE LET UP BUT LIKE YOU THE ENTIRE MEAL WAS RUINED FOR US. THEY HAD NO PLAN CONCERNING LIGHTS, HEAT OR RAIN YET THEY WERE MORE THAN HAPPY TO GRAB OUR MONEY.

  29. You o says...

Hadn’t been there in years. Never really cared for the crowd that frequents this joint. Long story short, gave it a shot a couple of nights ago and NYP was packed (definitely way over 50%) mandated by the State and not one customer outside or inside was wearing a mask while waiting in line or walking around the restaurant. The joint’s food wasn’t very good and the prices were ridiculously high. I tried, but this joint is still the perfect spot as to why many outsiders think of Boca Raton as the scam capital of America.

  30. Tom James says...

Save your money and don’t patronize a business who really thinks that it’s doing you a favor by letting you eat there.

  31. Nino Cruz says...

First time eating there last night. My wife and I really enjoyed the food. The big problem is the noise level. It’s so loud in there that we couldn’t hold a conversation.

Our party of 4 ate There last night for the first time.
We all agreed that the food was just passable and overpriced, that service was good, and that the noise level was way too loud and made the experience one that we wont be doing again.

  34. Ben Jameson says...

    Jeff,
Sorry to say you got this joint figured all wrong.
Noisy beyond belief, overpriced just average food and a staff that couldn’t give a shit about the customers. The joint is packed with the noisiest conceited assholes going.

  35. Jack Cohen says...

Ate there a couple of nights ago. Hadn’t been there in years, but it had a couple of outdoor tables. Food was decent enough, but nothing that would make me and my family run back real soon.

  36. Ralph Gleason says...

    Jeff,
My wife and I have lived in Boca raton for 35 years.

We have been steady customers at NY Prime since it first opened.

We rate NY Prime as the best steak house in Boca Raton.

Had dinner there last night and the food and service were superb.

Just thought I’d add my two cents to the comments here.
