I remember stores just like this one. Im thinking 1944.

Born in Brooklyn in 1948.
If I recall correctly, literally every other block had a candy store and a small grocery or fruit stand. There were also plenty of bars.
My grandfather started out with a pushcart and then had a fruit & vegetable store just like this on Blake Avenue in East New York.
I remember stores like this in the 1950s all over the 5 boros.
Every few blocks or so there was a candy store.
Waldbaums, A&P and Bohack’s were the supermarkets.
