***** Burgers & Suds, 261 East Commercial Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33334, (954) 772-8007.

You guys can thank me later!

Last night, Jeff Eats ate at Burgers & Suds…for our purposes- let’s call it an “American-Style” hole-in-the-wall that serves salads, burgers, wings, pizzas, sandwiches/wraps, tacos/burritos, Saturday-Sunday breakfast. The name Burgers & Suds is a bit deceiving…for sure, the joints- got 13 different burgers and something like 10 different bottled beer brands—but as I mentioned 2 seconds ago, there is a load of other “items” to stuff your face with.

Before I get into what I “tried”—let me tell, if you want to eat some outrageously good food—then you gotta go to Burgers & Suds. By the way, the joint has only been open…5-months.

I think you guys know by now, that Jeff Eats has eaten in his fair share of South Florida restaurants. Trust me on this, Burgers & Suds’ food is heads and shoulders better than most of the joints that I have been to.

Just so you know, Burgers & Suds looks like an absolute “dump” inside and outside…the inside has a bar that seats maybe 6 and 3 hi-tops that seat 9—the awning covered outside patio has a handful of tables with seating for 24…do the math—we are talking a total of 39 seats for the whole joint.

Before Jeff Eats goes any further, let me tell you that Burgers & Suds is my kinda of a joint or shall I say dump? I seriously doubt that most people looking at Burgers & Suds for the first time-would even consider eating there…

I’m sure, that you-know the old saying…”Don’t judge a book by its cover”—well, Burgers & Suds could be the poster-child for that famous line.

Last night, Jeff Eats’ party of-4 “had”…honey garlic wings (10 wings $8.95), Greek salad ($5.95), 1/2lb cheeseburger with onion rings ($8.95), chicken wrap with sweet potato fries ($7.95), 10” margarita pizza ($7.95), lamb burger with French fries ($10.95) and the food was amazingly good. No fooling around here, I would rate the cheeseburger right up there with the best that I’ve had ANYWHERE. Let me go as far and say—every item that we had was terrific and could hold its own against South Florida’s best of breed.

Burgers & Suds was a rare find. This joint isn’t some-guy throwing pre-formed frozen burger patties on a grill…the joint is supplied daily by a local butcher shop…hamburgers are charbroiled while lamb burgers are flat-top grilled—salad dressings are made in-house. The back-of-the-house really knows how to “cook” and portion size/price points tells me that a real “pro” is running Burger & Suds.

For right now, I’m thinking-that not too many people know about this joint- but, I’m willing to bet you a breakfast/lunch/or dinner–your choice, that this anonymity won’t last too much longer. There is no way that food like this—doesn’t find a gigantic audience.

For you “drinkers”–in addition to 10 bottled beer-brands, Burgers & Suds has a handful of wines by the glass/bottle…

For you “sports people”– there are 2 big flat screen tvs inside and 1 big flat screen outside.

Not to be too repetitious or nothing—but I’m telling you, you gotta try this joint!

You can check www.burgerssuds.com for menu/prices.

Burgers & Suds is open for lunch/dinner Monday-Friday 10am-9pm, Saturday-Sunday 8am-9pm (breakfast 8am-noon).

I was looking for East Coast Burrito, and found they were gone. After seeing so many 5 star reviews on Yelp, I had to try this place. We were greeted by the owner as we entered, and were made to feel right at home.

The strawberry basil lemonade was really good, and we were given a free refill. I didn’t expect that with a custom drink like that. Nice touch.

We tried the lamb burger because of the review by Marqus R, and were not disappointed. Yum! The sweet potato fries were the best I’ve ever had. They came drizzled with honey.

We also had a delicious small caesar salad, with house made dressing. All the sauces and dressings are made in-house.

We finished with a peanut butter chocolate smoothie, made with non-fat yogurt. It was excellent!

We will be back to try more items, but our first impressions was 2 thumbs up!

I was attracted to Burgers & Suds after noting it had received a number of rather stellar Yelp Five Star reviews; hence I had to check it out and I’m glad that I did. It’s a rather simple unassuming place and at first I thought “Oh, just another roadside burger joint” but it wasn’t that at all. Once I got inside not only did I find it to be super friendly, but serving some rather unique totally fresh top of line ingredient burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, snacks, salads, breakfast items and more.

Having a craving for a good burger I looked down the menu list and to my surprise spotted a 100% lamb meat “Lamb Burger.” I’m a real lamb lover but generally avoid ground lamb as most places don’t serve freshly ground and it generally comes out greasy, containing way too much fat. However, the proprietor assured me that such was not the case with his lamb. He told me it was fresh, super lean and really tasty. On first bite I could tell that he was right, it was super lean, not greasy in the least, having a fresh ground taste about it that was perfectly enhanced with a coating of herbed goat cheese and a Tzatziki sauce, which sauce had an excellent fresh made quality about it. It was a super good, one of the best lamb burgers I’ve ever had as well as a uniquely creative culinary delight.

As for burgers, besides the lamb, there are about ten other choices which should be enough provide everyone with whatever they may want.

The highlight for me, and this is a tip for you, be sure to try his Strawberry Basil Lemonade. It’s all handcrafted and the flavor is totally awesome, a true treat and something I’ve never come across anywhere else.

Other nice features about the place itself is that it sits way back off of Commercial so that the traffic isn’t at all annoying. It has a nice little front sort of sidewalk type patio with a couple of umbrella covered tables and then, in between the two building that comprised the establishment, a nice roof covered patio with a good flat screen in additional to an airconditioned interior eating area.

So, for the facts of serving stunningly fresh ground top quality meats along with all freshly handcrafted ingredients in unique culinary combinations and being a super friendly place, I too will go Five Stars.

The Strawberry Lemonade is a must to taste.

The lamb burger was the best lamb burger I’ve ever had.

Absolutely the best burger I’ve ever had. I got the Mexican Cartel burger with onion rings. I requested medium rare and it was the perfect temp and color, not to mention that it was amazingly juicy and full of flavor! The bread was so soft and it had a crunch on the toasted side that made for a wonderful texture overall. The onion rings were perfect, super crunchy and fresh.

If you sit at the main bar counter you can watch the cook make the burgers which is great! He even walked over and asked if we liked them, which to me, showed a passion for cooking and not just throwing things together on a plate. The woman at the register was extremely sweet, very accommodating and knew what she was talking about when it came to the food.

Though the place is small, with the only normal tables being outside, I cannot recommend this place enough. You really have to taste it to believe it. I read all the yelp reviews and was skeptical but trust me, it’s worth the trip over to give it a try.

Best burger joint I’ve been to.

We were on our way to another burger place and saw this on the way. I am SO glad we stopped! The food was incredible. The burger I had (Rodeo) was done just the way I ordered, the meat was juicy and the perfect texture.

Everything tasted so fresh and made there, no frozen onion rings or meat patties here! Well worth checking it out for lunch and breakfast. I know we will be back many times to try all the unique, tasty items on the menu as well as the specialty limited time burgers that are featured on the weekends.

    Highly recommended, amazing burgers!

(Note: indoor seating is limited to a few 2-3 person, tall, cafe tables and some seats at the bar. There is additional seating outside in a covered area.)

This is a great little restaurant with EXCELLENT food! Service is top notch. Atmosphere is casual, warm and welcoming. Menu is diversified – something for everyone. Sunday morning I had a mushroom and mozzarella cheese omelet that was out of this world! Served hot with great home fries. My friend had the lamb burger and said it was terrific! Cooked perfectly and the sweet potato fries were better than any he had ever had. Highly recommend Burgers & Suds for a great meal anytime!

I’m so excited to have another option in the area that has free delivery AND awesome food! I usually order food from another local place–but today I got so delayed at work that they weren’t delivering anymore…so I decided to try Burger & Suds and, well, it was providence!

I ordered the lamb burger with sweet potato fries and was impressed at the quality of the food. Super tasty, juicy, fresh and amazingly the burger was the correct temperature (not expected with delivery!) The delivery guy was friendly and the food got her on time (actually before I think)

Overall, totally worth it and I will definitely be ordering from them again–and so will all my colleagues that ended up poking their nose into my cubicle, jealously salivating over my late lunch!

This is as good as it gets for this type of burger joint!

What I love about this place is the real regard for freshness and quality in the food. This has become a new favorite for delivery at our office which is close by – they come fast, are friendly and just all around great people.

All of their meat is fresh. I really like their nachos and their burgers.

You really just can’t go wrong.

I love Burgers & Suds. Yesterday was my first time going there and I tried the Noriega and it was juicy and delicious. My partner had the turkey patty melt and she totally loved it. The owner and waitress are super friendly and nice. Going back today to have the chicken wings and fish tacos. Oh btw they have the absolute best sweet potato fries I’ve ever had. You can’t go there and not try it.

Total renovation from the old place, very nicely done. The burger selection was excellent, I split the lamb and bbq bacon burgers with a friend. The lamb was phenomenal, succulent and very fresh. The bbq bacon burger was also very tasty, served nicely with a crispy onion ring. Only cons are that there is no interior table seating, bar only and the price needs to be a few dollars cheaper. Our server was a little aloof and the food took awhile to come out but the quality was fantastic. Will be coming back soon.

First time here tonight. Owner and waitress were extremely friendly and spent a lot of time just chatting. Its obvious that they are excited and proud of this new place. I had the lamb burger with herbed goat cheese, lettuce, tomato ant Tzatziki sauce. The side of sweet potato fries with cinnamon, sugar and honey went better with the lamb burger than I had expected and were cooked perfectly. All the ingrediants were top notch end super fresh. No limp lettuce or questionable tomato slices here. The best burger I have had in a long time and certainly the best I’ve had in Florida.

Amazing and super friendly staff, i have severe food allergies and they took the time to clean the blender very throughly and didnt make me feel bad about it or anything. the food is wonderful , everything cooked to order and fast . the food looks just like the picture every time. Very unique burgers that are blended perfectly , this place should be in a food network show.

Here visiting family, loved the place! Wish we had it local in Orlando! Lamb burger was cooked perfectly. Had the sweet potato fries with honey on the side and they were like dessert- so good! If I had to find a negative it would be the beer selection. Unfortunately no draft and limited domestics. Regardless, even being beer people, this would be a go to place for us if we lived here!!! Really good!

OK, even though you work at, or own, Burger and Suds do you have to post all this junk? If I wanted to read a compendium of Yelp reviews I would have gone to Yelp!!!!!

      Sheesh!!!!

    Jeff,
Drove by it earlier today. You are right. From the road it looks kind of sketchy.
Will try it tomorrow with friends for breakfast.

  3. Mike Klein says...

Jeff, I’ve been reading Jeff Eats since the very beginning. You and I seem to have similar tastes in both food and music. I’ve tried many of your joint picks and have enjoyed most of them. This Burgers & Suds call is one of the strongest I’ve seen you write. Based on your past track record this joint must be terrific. I’m going to get there in a day or so and Report back.

  4. Jim Serrano says...

A friend swears by this place. He told me the food is great and that they often feature televised UFC events.

  5. Artie C says...

    Their lamb burger is amazing.

  6. Whack-a-mole says...

    Jeff —

Any chance you can stop the morons that cut’n’paste Yelp reviews from posting on your site? If I wanted to read Yelpers comments, I’d go to their site.

Experience has taught me what your tastes and expectations are. I don’t know who the Yelpers are, and their ‘insight’ is meaningless. Not to mention that scrolling though their claptrap takes a good deal of time.

    • gary says...

Whack-a-mole, was thinking the same thing, thank you….I overheard a conversation at Starbucks one day. A gentleman was telling his partner that he found a company outside of the U.S., for a monthly fee they would flood the internet with positive reviews for any business.

      • Jimmy G says...

Gary, you hit the nail on the head. sites like yelp and tripadvisor can be loaded up with good and bad reviews by phonies. the reader has absolutely no idea as to whether or not the reviewer is legit or not. the sad part, the negatives review can totally destroy a business for absolutely no reason.
yelp is a troubled company. I have heard of instances where they contact businesses and tell them they can get rid of the negative reviews for a fee.
the internet is a very powerful medium and very dangerous in that it can ruin somebody or something for no really good reason.

    • JeffEats says...

      Whack-a-mole:

Just had a chance to read your comments.

      Good idea.

Just so you know, other- than the “totally obscene” is printed in Jeff Eats.

In the future, we’ll try and limit those YELP type comments.

      Thanks for reading…

    • Gina R. says...

Yelp serves a valuable purpose. The trick is you got to read some of the reviews with a grain of salt. I think that most of the reviews are pretty legit.

    • KSR63 says...

      The food is great.
The owner told me that YELP actually sent a rep to the restaurant to check that all of the positive reviews were legit.
Jeff has put you on to a terrific restaurant. Like it said it looks like an absolute dump but the food that comes out of the kitchen is amazing. The lamb burger is incredible. Give this one a try. You will not be disappointed.

  7. Jon Greenberg says...

Read the review on Burger and Suds and saw they cook the burgers the way you want it unlike the other chains like 5 guys, burgefi and smash burger just to name a few, which I really don’t care for. So without even trying it they are tops in my book. I’ll be going soon and let you know what I think and will also try Super Dave’s. Thanks

    Jon Greenberg

  8. Jeff,
    Ive eaten there.
You are so right on this one.
This is the very very rare find.
Your readers should looks at Burgers & Suds’ Facebook page. Look at the food pictures.
This is a totally legit joint. The reviewers know they found something special.

  9. VISION says...

    I love a good burger.
You name it and Ive probably eaten there.
5 Guys, Burger Fi, Shake Shack, Charm City, Gilberts, Chuck Burger, ROK etc.
I’d match the cheeseburger that I had at Burgers & Suds against anyone of them It was delicious.

  10. JY says...

I would never trust YELP as it can easily be bogus reviews—that’s why I read Jeff Eat’s and I agree with the other poster who would prefer to not have Yelp reviews cut and pasted here.

Don’t be a Yelp Sucker when you’ve got real, bona fide reviews like Jeff Eats.

PS. Burger and Suds is in Lauderdale, not Oakland Park!!!

    • JeffEats says...

      JY:

Just had a chance to read your comments.

      First, thanks—-I corrected the address.

On YELP, you are right some of the reviews are bogus—but then again some are legit…but the problem is, you don’t know which is which!

I hear- you guys, not going to let readers re-publish YELP reviews on Jeff Eats.

      Thanks for reading…

  11. JY says...

Thanks for the reply Jeff—-I appreciate your honest reviews and they help me find new and different spots.

You “discovered” The Fish Shack, Valentino’s
and more for me, and I like the way you can check out the old reviews by city which is very helpful!!

Keep up the good work and I will keep telling my friends to check out “Jeff Eats” before they eat!

  12. Ted W says...

  13. Sid L. Turner says...

jeff, this has to be one of your best finds.
to be perfectly honest with you, from the outside this joint looks like a real dive. actually inside its a dive and its outdoor patio isn’t much better. based on looks I would never walk into no less eat at a joint like this.
based on your review I ate lunch there two days ago and I have to say that this joint makes one of the best cheeseburgers that I have ever eaten. same for the fries. the meat was juicy. the burger was enormous and the roll was great. this is a real sleeper place. great find. I will definitely be back to try other items.

  14. Fre f says...

Right up there with your best picks.
The lamb burger is amazing as is the cheeseburger. Loved the sweet potato fries with drizzled honey.
    Great find.
    Thanks

  15. Don K says...

    Great lamb burger.
Loved the onion rings and ff.
The owner comped me a chocolate chip cookie brownie for dessert. Delicious,…
Waitress Mary and owner Curtis are as pleasant s can be.
Will be be back to try more items.

  16. HeshyJones says...

    Jeff,
    The food here is fabulous.
The décor of the outdoor patio leaves a lot to be desired. same with the inside bar area.
    BUT, the food is incredible.
This is a real hole in the wall.
The owner really knows his way around a kitchen. His Rodeo Burger is one of the best burgers Ive ever eaten.
I highly recommend that your readers go there. Just don’t expect anything fancy décor wise and plan on sitting outside because the inside bar area is really small with no real tables.

  17. Rhino says...

The fellow who owns this joint sure knows how to cook.
    What a tremendous find.
    Thanks,
    Rhino

  18. ZEKE says...

    Jeff Eats,
no question in my mind that this pick is your best yet. incredible food and dirt cheap prices.
based on the outside look most of your readers wouldn’t ever ever ever stop there.
    thanks for the heads up.

  19. jeff, you are right, the food is amazing. didn’t care one bit for the outdoor patio and inside is a small joke. so great food, horrendous décor setup. not going back so fast. and god forbid it rains, the guy is literally out of business.
