***** El Tamarindo Pizza & Continental Cuisine, 614 Southeast 10th Street, Deerfield Beach, Florida 33441, (954)480-9919.

Got an interesting “one” for you guys…El Tamarindo Pizza & Continental Cuisine in Deerfield Beach.

To make a long story short…a Salvadorian guy named Nestor Amaya comes to South Florida in the late 1990s—and today…his wife, his brothers, his sister, his sons and daughter own 3 restaurants and are currently developing 4 other locations. The current locations are, El Tamarindo Pizza & Continental Cuisine, El Tamarundo Bistro & Bar Latin Café (this was the first location which opened in 2003 and is located on State Road 84 in Fort Lauderdale), El Tamarindo Coal Fired Pizza (Hallandale)…

You can check menus/prices/locations at www.eltamarindocafe.com. The restaurants in development are in Lighthouse Point, Aventura, Miami Beach, Pine Crest. Very interesting concept, all of the restaurants feature Italian, Mexican, Salvadorian dishes–but the menus although very similar- are all also “different”—for example, one joint has coal fired pizza, while another has “regular” New York Style pizza, while another location has no pizza at all. When you check the website, take a look at the menus—and you’ll see what I’m talking about…The planned Lighthouse Point joint (El Tamarindo Café)-which is set to open in two weeks-will be the “family’s” first venture into adding sushi to the menu-mix.

Anyway…last night Jeff Eats “tried” the El Tamarindo in Deerfield Beach. First, let me start by saying, the staff of this joint is one of the friendliest most hospitable crews that I’ve ever encountered. The “brother” Jackson who runs this particular outpost is one of the most pleasant and welcoming people I’ve had the pleasure to do business with. Now—the NY Style pizza was thin-crisp-delicious sweet sauce…the penne ala vodka was right on the money…the chicken soup was as good as anything Jeff Eats’ mom use to turn out (and trust me, that lady really knew how to make chicken soup)…the grilled tilapia was dynamite…the mixed salad as fresh/crisp as could be…the prosciutto/mozzarella panini was off the chart. On the price front, figure about 11 bucks per dish and the entrees come with two sides.

I am telling you that El Tamarindo Pizza & Continental Cuisine is a homerun.

Just so we are straight, this “story” is about the Deerfield Beach joint (it opened about 8 months ago)…Jeff Eats hasn’t tried the other locations. Call it a gut feeling, but my money says that the other locations are probably just as good- food/service-wise as the joint I was in. The passion that Jackson and his staff “have” is definitely a family-thing…

El Tamarindo is a must try.

The joint is open 7 days a week 11am-11pm.

5 stars, no question. Great food and great prices. Service was truly the best we’ve had in southern Florida. The dining room is immaculate and the staff went above-and-beyond. Visit, they deserve your business.

This is the 3rd location for this family owned restaurants! The same Tamarindo menu goodness just a lot closer now! What I really enjoy about this place is the mix of classic Spanish and Italian fare.. So if you’re in the mood for Chicken Francese and your spouse wants Churrasco with rice and beans.. You don’t have to compromise! You just go to Tamarindo!!

The food was good- the pizza is very light and not overly greasy which I am a fan of.
The staff is very friendly and welcoming. The only downside to our experience is kind of funny actually- we thought the staff was too overbearing and checked in on us too much. There was at least 3 different waiters checking in on us and none of them communicated with each other so it lead to being checked in on once, then literally 45 seconds later- someone else also checks – then 3 minutes later another one comes along and asks the same thing. Then the owner came over and made small talk with us which was nice- but it prompted the waiters to check on us even more. It got comical at first but then it became impossible for us to enjoy our meal and have a steady stream of conversation without being interrupted. Never thought I would say attentive service is a bad thing- but when done to the extreme it certainly is.
I hope the management reads this and tones down their staff – there is a fine line to when checking in with a guest is too much and each one of the staff had crossed it.
Its a shame because the food is really great and the environment is pleasing. Fix this small flaw and I will be a client for life!

Stopped by for a quick lunch with the family, was amazed at how good the food was and how friendly everyone was as well. Have not been to their other restaurants, but glad they are now in my area. They have done a nice job decorating, big upgrade from the old restaurant at this location.

What a find– The owner, Jackson, was so gracious and came by our table to introduce himself and treat us to a complimentary sample of the carne asada and corn tamale. Both were delicious; for anyone who loves corn, the tamale is a must– sweet enough to enjoy for dessert and served with homemade sour cream. My husband and I couldn’t decide on our entrees, so we decided to order both the chicken Marsala (recommended by our server) and the chicken Siciliana. Again, both were superb. The Siciliana was not exactly what we expected from the menu description (in other words, don’t order it if you are looking for something “light”), but had both of us raving about it– a thinly pounded but generous portion of chicken breast topped with delectable breaded eggplant, yummy tomato sauce, and cheese. For dessert, we shared their homemade coconut flan– not bad, though I would have appreciated more coconut flavor and less sweetness; it was also denser than the flans I am used to. Accompanied it with a first-rate decaf cortadito. Definitely coming back here soon, next time with friends.

  3. www3434 says...

Jeff, the original loc is right across the street from lesters diner on st rd 7.
The Italian food there is terrific and the prices dirt cheap.
Have heard that the coal fired pizza in the Hallandale loc is great.

  4. WEDNER says...

Ive had there coal oven pizza. It’s delicious.
Didn’t know they had a Deerfield spot.
Definitely will give it a try.

  5. The Chowfather says...

Yelp is awful. Why copy and paste nonsense here??

I frequent the Hallandalle spot often. Great value. Their pizza background s from working at Anthony’s CF…

  6. LL09 says...

Their pizza and panini are delicious.

  7. mark says...

Does the Deerfield location also have Salvodorian food? I am looking for good papusa and i have heard the one on 84 has them but thats a bit of a drive..

    • SSD20 says...

hey mark, why don’t you be a big boy and go to the website that jeff posted and check the menus for each location?

      • mark says...

Thanks for the great idea SSD20 i tried this morning but the site would not load, I will try again now that i know you were so kind as to test it for me.

      • mark says...

OK SSD20 this is whats on thier site but i not see a menu. It could be the traffic from jeffs caused this due to bandwidth issues.

        • swisher says...

I went to the site and they have menus for all 3 restaurants.
time for the geek squad to work for you.

          • mark says...

It might be for geek squad time for you guys as the site has been hackld and thats why i could not see it as i work for a telco and they have systems to block us from getting to hacked sites. And again is anyone here that did see the menu nice enough to tell me if they have papusas on the menu? I men thats all i asked and all i got was attitude is everyone out there in bad mood or something.

          • mark says...

If someone ask you the time because thier watch is not working to you tell them to get a new watch or get your watch fixed or do you tell them the time?

          • mark says...

Well it looks like they are getting the site fixed and i can now see the menu and sadly they dont have any salvadorian food other than the soup. I guess i will have to wait until i can get down to the one on 84 to try them. Also for those who did view the website during the time the site was hacked please be sure to run your antivirus just in case.

          • FarmerBrothers says...

mark, the site was never down, your computer was working right.

          • MArk says...

Farmerbother your right the site was not down it was infected with malware that kpet my servers at work form being able to acess it. I work for a major web hosting company and we have systems in place to keep us from being infected by hacked site. Thats why i said thise who have viewed it might want run thier anti virus. But i do want to thank all the nice people who rather than just answering my question told me it was my fault i could not see the menus and to buy a new computer. Must be the winter blues. FYI i just ran another scan on the IP and its still infected so watch out.

On side note if your able ti view the site you might want to look into upgrading your securty settings as you should get a warning before you enter a known malware of phishing site. This is the warning my system shows. “Possible web threat
