Laurenzo’s Italian Center (North Miami Beach)

meats

***** Laurenzo’s Italian Center, 16385 West Dixie Highway, North Miami Beach, Florida 33160, (305) 945-6381.

Let’s call Laurenzo’s Italian Center an “Italian Specialty Supermarket”…terrific selection of fresh fruits/vegetables, wines, cheeses, pastas, fresh meat/seafood/chicken, baked goods, prepared foods. You can check laurenzositalianmarket.com for full details.

I’m gonna let you in on a-little secret, Jeff Eats loves joints like Laurenzo’s…great selection, top quality stuff, reasonable prices, hustle-bustle atmosphere. The bet here is that Laurenzo’s “must” be doing something right…its been around for something like 60 years.

Laurenzo’s also has a really-cool “cafeteria” type setup going on right in the middle of the joint…a handful of checkered oil-cloth covered tables—recently tried the joint’s brick-oven pizza, sausage & peppers sub, chicken parm sub—delicious.

Laurenzo’s Italian Center is open Monday-Saturday 9am-7pm, Sunday 9am-5pm.

Jeff, my husband and i have been shopping there for years. their chicken cacciatore is excellent and their cakes, cannoli’s are outrageously delicious. its really a small supermarket, wine store, farmers mkt all rolled into one. http://www.laurenzosmarket.com

There are two top markets in S. Florida.
The Boys in Boynton Beach and Laurenzo’s in N. Miami.
You also have Joesph’s and Doris but they arent in the same league.

I love the Boys once i get insite but the parking lot scares me. What happend to Kings in Boca?

    • VBC says...

i heard that kings was closed down because of an uncontrollable rat/mice infestation problem.

    • Scotty says...

King’s property was sold (and closed) to a South Florida developer that eventually filed bankruptcy……. I was at the auction of all their remaining items like the wine, coolers, food etc. All other’s that have emailed about King’s demise are wrong. Love your blog!

Laurenzo’s is terrific. Their Italian sausage can’t be beat. Great juices, deli and seafood too.Like something out of Manhattan in the 60’s.

    Jeff,
Just wanted to compliment you on your great Jeff Eats’ site.
Today you talked about an Italian market in N Miami Beach.
Yesterday you talked about an upcoming festival in Jupiter.
The other day you talked about Al Sharpton having a tv show on MSNBC.

You really do a great job in varying the content and not limiting it to talking only about restaurants.

Great job and I really enjoy reading what you have to say about things. I also love reading on the comments that your thoughts generate.

todd, ive lived in Boca 30 years. Peace a Pizza is fair. The best slice is at Brooklyn Boys on 441 and Glades. The best red sauce place is Nino’s in Boca. Thick N Thin on 441 is also very good. Augy’s is also very good. Barone’s La Pizzeria in Coral Springs is my favorite red sauce in all of Florida. Delicious food and terrific pizza. I highly recommend that you make the drive and try it.

Got to agree, Brooklyn Boys’ Pizza is as good as it gets in Boca. I’m there once a week.

Todd if your in that area go accross the street from Piece of Pizza to Dean Anthonys. My office is right there and we order from just about everyone in the area and thats our favorite. BTW i am not from NY and dont like most NY style pizza.

    • Frank W says...

Best is Nick’s New Haven Pizza. Dean Anthony also very good.

I love joseph’s. They have quality food.

  9. Laura G. says...

Been in Florida for over 40 years.
The best market is The Boys. Laurenzo’s is also very good but I think that The Boys’ selection is a drop better. Kings was good but not in the league of these two. Doris is fair at best. Joseph’s is good but not like The Boys and Laurenzo’s. Hope that confuses everybody!!!

Laurenzo’s Italian Market has been a North Miami Beach Landmark for almost 50 years. There is a reason they have been around for so long. Their food is excellent. They also have a wonderful wine selection. By Gregg L. Friedman MD, Psychiatrist, Hallandale Beach, FL

    Great mkt to shop at.
I use Publix for basics like milk. soda, paper goods.
The real food comes from Laurenzo’s.

Laurenzo’s used to br great. You couldn’t get in the door around the holidays. Everyone spoke Italian and it had high standards of food and was clean. Last time I was there all the employees spoke hardly any English. It is Italian and Spanish food sold there now. There is another great Italian market I used to go to on Johnson Street in Hollywood called Gino’s. Been there since the 70’s. Mimi’s who makes all the ravoili you see in the frozen food sections around here has their own store. Also around for a long time. They sell all freshly made manicotti and stuffed shells and ravoili. The home cooked food for take out is really really Italian. Escarole spup (scharolle)_ sausage and peppers home made sauce (gravy). The home made soups and entrees.. the breads baked right there..the cakes, real Italian cookies and authentic cheeses… a great store and family run..also on Johnson Street.
