Johnnie Brown’s Burgers, Wings, Ribs & Classic Rock (Delray Beach)

Posted on May 26th, 2009 · American Delray Beach

*****  Johnnie Brown’s Burgers, Wings, Ribs & Classic Rock, 301 East Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach  33483.

Hey Jeff Eats, why are you telling us about a joint, that doesn’t even exist? Because…I want you to be one of the first to know, that Elwood’s Dixie Barbeque which has been around for something like 12 million years, was recently sold to Nick Nicholas and Jay Patrinos who run one of “my-most” favorite restaurants in the whole wide world, Primanti Bros….that Elwood’s will be remodeled–renamed Johnnie Brown’s–and probably have some of the most incredible, reasonably priced  food that South Florida has ever seen…but then again,  I am just guessing.

Look for Johnnie Brown’s to open sometime in October 2009.

  1. If Johnny’s is 1/2 as good as the Primanti stores in Sunrise and Oakland it will be incredible. Finallllllly just maybe something with fair prices and great food will come to Atlantic Avenue. For those who don’t know about Primanti get your butts to either one of their Florida locations. They also have about 20 spots in my hometown of Pittsburgh and have been featued on that Dives Diner show on tv. Incredible food and cheap prices.

Hey Jeff… Fantastic. A great spot on Atlantic where we may possibly eat for a reasonable price and get good food! And it opens just when I get back to south Florida from the northlands of NY

Bill from Delray: Just had a chance to read your post. Primanti Bros. is an absolutely dynamite joint to eat in. I absolutely love their Oakland store and their Sunsire spot stays open 7 days a week 24 hours a day. Their pizza, subs, sandwiches are great. They have loads of stores in Pittsburgh and are profiled by tv’s Guy Fiere on Diners, Dives and Drive Thrus. These guys who just bought Elwood’s have a shot of making this new Johnny Brown’s an incredible joint. We’ll see. The bet here, is that based on their Primanti operations, this will be a walk in the park for them.

Bobby Delray: Just had a chance to read your comment.

Johnnie Brown’s is set to open today, December 8, 2009 at 5pm. As you pointed out, its website is http://www.johnniebrowns.com

I’m gonna check this joint out, after the “initial shakeout period”—figure sometime within the next month and see if Johnnie Brown’s lived up to my original expectations. The menu/prices listed on the website…scream “my kind of joint.”

Based on the guys running this joint, I think that a “homerun” is in the making.

I was at Johnny Brown’s in Delray opening night. LOVED IT! The ribs were outstanding. The band that played was excellent. Lots of good beers, diverse menu – more than just burgers, wings and ribs. Good prices, too. I passed by Thursday night and Elvis was back. Welcome to Delray Beach, JB!!

  14. bradley says...

Why did they not call it Primanti brothers….we would have known the connection and Floridians would have gone cause it is so good!!

  15. JeffEats says...

bradley: Just had a chance to read your comment…funny you should ask that question.

Last Friday I ate at the new Johnnie Brown’s and happen to meet Jim Patrinos who owns Johnnie Brown’s and the Primanti chain. I asked Jim why he didn’t use the Primanti name at the new location. He told me, that in Pittsburgh, Primanti’s is primarily known for its burgers, subs, sandwiches and not its pizza. Jim said, that for some reason in S. Florida, Primanti’s is known for its pizza. He said, that Atlantic Avenue was loaded with pizza joints and didn’t need another one…so he decided to open a- new very casual dining concept, Johnnie Brown’s, rather than a Primanti’s location.

    thanks for the rec.ommendation.
although it was a bit brisk yesterday afternoon we ate at Johnnie’s and enjoyed it. excellent wings and those sliders that you mentioned were great.
    thanks again.
we really enjoy your site, keep the picks coming.

Just ate there last night. Terrible. My order was wrong twice. The burgers were burnt. With the rent and competition on Atlantic expect this place to not make it through the summer

  18. Vinny says...

Been to Johnnie Browns four times so far on the weekends. Had dinner twice. One night I had the ribs and the other I had a burger. Both were outstanding! Beers were ice cold too! Live bands were rockin and house sound system was kickin with great variety of tunes that reminded me of when I was in high school. Staff was very friendly and I think I will soon be able to call myself a regular. Keep it up Johnnie Brown!!!

  19. JerseyJax says...

I just visited Delray Beach and LOVED Johnnie Brown’s. In the week we were there my friend and I ate there 3 times. The burgers and fries are delicious and the staff were very friendly. It was an EXCELLENT experience all around.

    Great ribs, burgers, bands.

you should also mention the kind of music at these places… not everyone likes to yell and shout to each other over a meal… these owners don’t realize that there is a need for some good food, good and atmosphere and enjoyable softer music… jazz, Sinatra, Darin, etc. Not everyone just goes out for “clubbing” in Downtown. A great dinner at a resonable price without the noise would be great !
