*****  Tucci’s Fire N Coal Pizza, 50 Northeast 1st Avenue, Boca Raton, Florida 33432 (561) 620-2930.

Regular, Jeff Eats’ readers know that…I love a good pizza. I don’t care if it’s brick-oven, wood oven, coal oven, this oven or that oven…just as long as it tastes good. You also do know that I speak fluent Italian…”Give me two slices and a large Coke.”…don’t you?  Over the past 3-years or so, South Florida has been “hit” with a ton of new pizza joints which play the “coal oven-chicken wings” card…guys like Anthony’s, Coal Mine, Carolina’s, Mona Lisa, just to name a few…and by in large, they are all pretty decent… of course, some are better than others…that’s why Jeff Eats is here.

Anyway…last night, I gave Tucci’s Fire N Coal Pizza in Boca Raton a shot. The joint which has been open for something like 3 months… has indoor seating for about 50 and maybe 10 outside. The menu has 4 appetizers, chicken wings, escarole & beans, eggplant rollatini and sauteed broccoli rabe & sausage…2 salads, Italian and caesar…loads of coal/wood cooked pizzas…2 desserts, cheesecake and cannoli…beer and soda by the bottle.

Let’s make this review easy. I had an Italian salad, margherita/ricotta/sausage pizza, chicken wings. The food was delicious. The salad was cold, fresh, crisp… The chicken wings were seasoned with garlic and carmalize onion, The pizza was thin crusted, crisp, perfectly well-done, right on the money sweet sauce…As for service, pleasant as can be…Price-wise, small wings (10) $9.95, salad which could have feed 3 ($10.95), pizzas–depending on what you order (that’s obvious) start at- small ($13.95)-large ($17.95).

Tucci’s Fire N Coal Pizza is a really good coal-oven pizza/chicken joint.  I enjoyed its food and casual “hole in the wall” atmosphere. By the way, you can check Tucci’s menu/prices at www.tuccispizza.com.

Tucci’s is open for lunch & dinner Tuesday-Sunday…the joint is closed on Monday.

hey jeff, i recently drove by tucci’s and i could swear that it is in the same location as red rock use to be. i am going to try tucci’s. is it red rock with a different name or owner?
    thanks.

I eat there every few weeks. Pizza is the best in Boca! Ryan

mike p. Just had a chance to read your post.

You are 100% correct, in that Tucci’s is in the exact same location where Red Rock Coal Oven Pizza use to be.
Red Rock was a terrific place. From what I understand, its owner Mike passed away about 2 years ago…which caused the business to close.
I was a very big fan of Red Rock.

The new owner Alberto, has totally redone the location. He got rid of the heavy wood bar and dark colors and put in a new oven. The joint is very open and bright looking…a big improvement over Red Rock’s decor.

The big question…is the food as good as Red Rock’s was?

Give Tucci’s a try. I think that you will find that it is as good as Red Rock was if not better.

You eat all over the place. Like you I also enjoy a really good slice of pizza. You have a huge list of good places but I ws wondering if you had to pick the best coal fired and best regular pizzas which would be your picks?

gs boca raton: Just had a cahnce to read your post.
That’s a tough one…over the years, I have eaten in tons of pizza joints. It really is impossible to tell you who makes the “best” slice/pizza.
What I can tell you(just off the top of my head),is that I have been a repeat-steady customer of Frankie’s in Miami, Primanti Brothers in Oakland Park, Nino’s in both Boca Raton & Delray Beach, Brooklyn Boys in Boca Raton, Carolina’s in Delray Beach, Mona Lisa’s in Deerfield Beach, Perini’s (now Stella’s) in Boca Raton, Frank’s in Pompano Beach…just to name a few.

I will tell you that I was literally born and raised on Totonnos coal oven pizza which first opened for business in 1924 at 1524 Neptune Avenue, Brooklyn, New York (Coney Island) http://www.totonnos.com …and since 1950 when my parents first took me there, I have considered this joint to be the gold standard of coal oven pizza…as for “regular” pizza, since 1950 Di Fara Pizza 1424 Avenue J. Brooklyn, New York http://www.difara.com has been the gold standard for me. When you eat pizza from Totonnos and Di Fara you think that you have died and gone to heaven…

Three of us ate at Tucci’s. Wings, salad, pizza. Food was very good. But close to $80 for a pizza meal? Not good.

  6. po says...

very expensive for what it is. these coal oven restaurants are too expensive.

  7. mr. smythe says...

James W. and po right on the money, so to speak. Very good food, but too expensive for a hole in the wall. There is too much competition in this space for Tucci’s to be getting such high prices.

  8. ML says...

    FOOD WAS GOOD.

  10. hey jeff, your Mona Lisa’s-Carolina’s-Tucci’s calls are perfect. All of them are great, my favorite is Tucci’s then Mona Lisa’s then Carolina’s.

    tucci’s rocks.

  12. KJ says...

Used a $10 off Clipper Magazine coupon. Excellent pizza and wings. Throw in a $10 savings and everything was perfect.

  13. gs says...

we also used a 10 dollar off coupon. last night dinner of salad, wings, pizza delicious.

  14. Mina says...

ML location may stink but i go there every saturday night and the place is usually pretty packed, so im gonna assume that like me, there are ppl who are very willing to go there.

i get a sweet tea, my bf gets a soda or beer, or both and we get a small margherita if we cant decide or arent sure what to eat.

the salad are pretty huge, well the appetizers in general are huge, so we usually just get a pizza.

the total usually comes to about $25 to $30. we also usually have $20 coupons, so were good to go lol.

i loooooooove the service, soo friendly EVERY time. and the owner, i think, is startin to notice us more and more. i do like that he actually works there[not just supervises] and is sliding the pizzas in the oven and sometimes takin them to their respective tables.

i do wish they had a little bit bigger veriety of desserts but the cannoli is pretty good.

Follow Jeff Eats, burgerbeast.com, worstpizza.com religiously. With your three sites I know where all the best JOINTS are.
Last night I saw on tv worstpizza.com talking about pizza in S Fl. for the Superbowl. It was filmed in Tucci’s.
Checked your review and decided to order food for Super Bowl.
Absolutely incredible. I and my friends couldn’t believe how good the pizza, wings and salad were. I can’t recall a better coal fired pizza wings meal.
    Thanks Jeff Eats and worstpizza.com.

  17. po says...

Hadn’t been to Tucci’s since it morphed from Red Rock into Tucci’s.
    Outstanding pizza, salad and wings.
We loved Red Rock and we love Tucci’s.

  19. AG says...

One of the best coal oven pizza restaurants in the area. The pizza and wings are far superior to Anthony’s.

  20. HerbK says...

We went there last night and tried their margherita pizza and eggplant rollatini for the first time. The margherita pizza is good but I prefer their regular pizza, which about as good as it gets. I’ve been to all the coal fired pizza places within 25 miles of Boca, except Carolina’s, and Tucci’s is far superior. They use fresh mozzarella in the perfect ratio of cheese to sauce.
The eggplant rollatini appetizer is made in the same oven as their pizza, not fried, and is amazingly delicious. I wish they made a meal sized portion because as much as I love their pizza I could just have the eggplant rollatini as a meal from time to time.
It definitely isn’t inexpensive to eat there, with splitting salads and the eggplant, it came out to about $15 a person, including tax and tip, without beverages. However, you do get what you pay for, their fresh mozzarella cheese is simply a higher quality than any other place has and you can taste the difference. The place was packed and we will keep coming back for more.

Saw two Sun Sentinel reviews. Both rated Tucci’s as really good.
Personally I think that Carolina’s in delray is better.
But Tucci’s is also very very good.
You can’t go wrong with either pizza.

I just tried tuccis after the sun sentinel write up& 50% off cpn from SFD.
i love good pizza.it wasnot bad but THIS IS A JOINT.there margerrita pizza is $24.00+2sodas=$30.+tip.. way overpriced. a thin crusted pizza with a sweet red sauce & mozzerralla cheese.it barely fill me &my date up.the place has no atmosphere,is very noisy is on a side street in downtown boca. I can never fiqure how people rate these places.for these prices I WAS LOOKING FOR THE ULTIMATE EXPERENCE. NOT GOING BACK. I HAVE EATIN JUST AS GOOD PIZZA FOR LESS THAN HALF WHAT THEY Are charging with. much better atmosphere

We found Tucci’s on your site.
You definitely picked a winner here.
    Delicious crisp thin pizza.
We also enjoyed the wings and salad.
We are always looking for good coal oven pizza and Tucci’s definitely came through for us.

  28. Melvin says...

    Outrageously good coal oven pizza.

  29. howie says...

Why do these places think that they more shills they can plant the better? It just sounds silly after awhile.

It’s a pretty good pizza, but a 15″ pizza that’s burned around the edges shouldn’t cost $18.50. I can get a pretty good, bigger pizza nearby for quite a bit less.

Besides, this isn’t pizza. It’s a flatbread. Pizza has gooey cheese and oregano.

  30. robert weisberg says...

I finally tried this place. It is a a hidden little location unless you know Boca well but literally a stones throw from Mizner Park. Definitely pricey for Pizza but amazing. FIrst not asingle drop of grease or oil. Not burnt. Perfect crust. One of the best I have eaten and I have tried some of the best in the world.

  33. HT says...

Jeff, Tucci’s isn’t exactly in my neighborhood. I really don’t get there very often. Ate there tonight and it’s pizza, wings, house salad and meatballs were exceptionally good. Tucci’s food runs circles around the others in the area.

  34. Mary Diamond says...

I’ve eaten in tons of coal fired pizza places in Florida, not to mention elsewhere. Tucci’s pizza is right up there with the best. They also make great chicken wings and salads.

  35. Chuck says...

Salad, pizza and wings were delicious. Tried the meatballs and they were way too spicey for my taste.

  36. SOMER says...

Jeff, best coal oven pizza i’ve eaten.

    Jeff:
My wife and I and another couple ate at Tucci’s this evening. It was the first time for all of us. We all agreed that the pizza, wings and house salad we ordered was right up with the best coal oven pizzerias in South Foorisa.
    We will definitely be back!!!

  39. karla says...

I’ve eaten in tons of coal fired pizza places. This is imho the best in South Florida. The pizza is heads and shoulders above the others. Great wings.

  40. stayman says...

    Ate there last night.
    Terrific pizza and great wings.
Had heard about it and glad my wife and I were in the area to give it a shot.
    Highly recommend this one.

  41. Howard T says...

By far and away best coal oven pizza in Boca.
Being lactose intolerant I usually have a problem late at night even though I take pill just before I eat pizza. Don’t have that problem with Tucci’s pizza. So for that alone it’s the best pizza as far as I’m concerned.

  42. EDF says...

Tried it tonight. Delicious pizza and wings. Will be back for sure.

  43. Judy N. says...

Jeff, definitely one of the best coal fired pizza joints. Pizza, wings, salad, eggplant, meatball delicious.
    Runs circles around Anthony’s.

  44. Harvey says...

Coal fired pizza and wings are two of my favorite items. Tucci’s does a great job on both.

    • Intros. says...

I agree with you Tucci’s pizza and wings are terrific. can’t think of any one better in the area.

  45. George the Greek says...

The Pizza is very good. Salads are fine. The place is small and expensive for what you get. However if you want quality, here it is, just do not be suprised when you see the bill.

  46. Sharon W says...

My husband and I have eaten at loads of coal oven pizza places. Included in the list are Anthony’s in Delray, Giovanni’s in Parkland, Gramaldi’s in West Palm Beach and Mona Lisa in Pompano Beach (now closed).
Can’t really recall having had a bad salad, pizza or wings at any of those listed and for that matter any restaurant that we have tried.
With that in mind I justed wanted to tell you that Tucci’s is by far and away the best that we have been to. We have been there 7 times and each time the pizza etc. was outstanding.
Tucci’s is a small place so every so often there is a small wait.
Tucci’s prices aren’t exactly cheap but like they say you get what you pay for.

  47. Mel Aplebaum says...

When Tucci’s, was RedRock, had eaten there about 25 times, til they closed. Always had decent pizza & wings, with reasonable pricing. Since Tucci’s opened, have been back easily over 30 times, mostly for lunch, and early dinners.
Their reg pizza is better than RedRock’s. Ditto on the wings. They’ve now added wine to menu, stick with their beer selection. On Mon & Tues, they now will let you bring yr own wine, but charge a $10.00 corkage fee. Go that route if you like your vino!
I’ve been to Anthony’s in Boca & Delray. Their reg pizza is good to very good, but Tucci’s gets the nod on the wings.
I prefer Tucci’s atmosphere, from Anthony’s though it’d be easier to go to Anthony’s/Delray. location. Many commenters say Tucci’s pizza much better than Anthony’s. I wouldn’t say much better, BUT the wings are!

  48. Lee T says...

Best pizza and wings and salads.
    Put the rest to shame.

  49. RR says...

Didnt like the pizza found the cheese just thick and tasteless.

  50. JYH says...

Ate there last night. Best pizza and salads around.
